Oh Wes, really?!?
Not even a week after reporting that SCREAM 4 is set to commence filming this May with Wes Craven reprising his role as director (as he did on all 3 prior SCREAM entries), Mr. Craven has just Tweeted that he is NOT yet slated as director, that he is in fact still ironing out the details to do so.
According to Craven’s twitter account: “LA Times has it wrong. I’m still in talks but nothing has been finalized.”
Uh…okay then. I’m not sure what the hell this recantation is really about, we all know Craven is destined to be at the helm of the much speculated SCREAM trilogy reboot. Whether the dude is trying to map out back-end deals or percentage points, or whatever else the business side of filmmaking entails…we all know it’s just a mere formality until Craven is officially named the go to man.
Who knows, maybe seeing all the new A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET promo material that bombarded the web yesterday got the man in a panic-induced fit of hysteria. Maybe the dude couldn’t sit idly by and watch his baby (a baby that’s since been adopted by Samuel Bayer) receive love without his name attached. Could be far fetched, but I’m not putting anything past these solipsistic Hollywood types.
All that being said, I still think it mutually beneficial for us, the fans, as well as Craven himself to forge ahead with SCREAM 4. No one knows the material like Craven, and I’ll be damned to sit by and watch some unproven hack director take the reins to an all but universally loved horror franchise. No, Craven’s the right man…and I doubt it takes too long for all parties involved to reach the same conclusion.
Thoughts on all this craziness?
Hock a hollow point below!
This much remains certain: Courtney “Cougar Town” Cox-Arquette WILL star in SCREAM 4!
