What’s New to Watch on Blu-ray: Braveheart, Gladiator, LEGO Shazam and more

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Braveheart, Gladiator, Shazam

Testosterone will flow like wine on the home market this week thanks to the arrival of Mel Gibson's BRAVEHEART and Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR, both of which are now available to own in a stunning 4K Blu-ray format. Ah, but that's not the only action-oriented entertainment that's hitting the shelves this week, so I hope you've come prepared for more. Also making its way to a retailer near you is LEGO DC SHAZAM: MAGIC AND MONSTERS, the latest build-a-brick company's latest animated superhero adventure!

Not in the mood for action? Then perhaps the release of director Jon Avnet's THREE CHRISTS is more to your liking. The film follows Dr. Alan Stone (Richard Gere), who is treating three paranoid schizophrenic patients (Peter Dinklage, Bradley Whitford, Walton Goggins) at the Ypsilanti State Hospital in Michigan, each of whom believed they were Jesus Christ. What transpires is both comic and deeply moving.

If you're not feeling that, maybe give THE QUARRY a watch. Directed by Scott Teems, this crime-based thriller tells the story of a drifter (Shea Whigham)  who kills a traveling preacher and takes his place at a small-town church, but the police chief (Michael Shannon) suspects foul play. Dun dun dunnnn!

Other notable releases include Criterion's version of THE CAMERAMAN, THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION, SNIPER: ASSASSIN'S END, A SOLDIER'S REVENGE, Dakota Aesquiel's DEADLY CRUSH, Thijs Meuwese's KILL MODE and more!
