What’s New to Watch on Blu-Ray: Mare of Easttown, Perfect Blue, and more

Perfect Blue and Mare of Easttown hit Blu-ray shelves this week.

Hey, it’s been a while since we’ve done one of these, eh? Truth be told, I needed time to spruce up the Blu-ray section after we relaunched the site, and now we’re back in business. Before we go any further, yes, Black Widow is out now on 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital platforms. The reason I haven’t listed it is because Amazon is being persnickety about the listing, and I don’t want to lead you all down the wrong path.

Moving on, there are plenty of intriguing releases this week, including the Limited Edition Steelbook version of Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue. Have you ever seen this movie? In my opinion, it’s Kon’s greatest film, and should be a part of every anime fan’s collection. In the film, a pop singer gives up her career to become an actress, but she slowly goes insane when she starts being stalked by an obsessed fan and what seems to be a ghost of her past. It’s trippy, disturbing, and not for kids. Make sure you pick it up!

The TV miniseries Mare of Easttown has also been released. Created by Brad Ingelsby, the drama stars Kate Winslet, who plays a detective in a small Pennsylvania town investigating a local murder while trying to keep her life from falling apart. I’ve not seen Mare of Easttown, but I’ve heard nothing but great things. Seriously, my Twitter feed wouldn’t shut up about it for weeks, and I got major FOMO from the whole experience. Maybe now is my time to see what all the noise is about.

Other notable releases include Boss Baby: Family Business, Zola, the LAIKA Studios editions of Paranorman and Kubo and the Two Strings, as well as a 4K version of The Shawshank Redemption.
