Why do I love movies? Well, that is a loaded question. How much time do you have? I could go into a long-winded diatribe about the art of film-making or the magic of the movies, but all of that has been said countless times before. Not every movie is a masterpiece, but every film has touched me in one way or another. Every other week, we will look at a handful of reasons why movies are so damn great..

I love movies…because of the letter from the ending of THE BREAKFAST CLUB

Because of the unadulterated violence in HOME ALONE

Because of every memory in ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

Because of the squid eating scene in OLDBOY

Because of William Wallace’s final battlecry in BRAVEHEART

Because of every movie reference in RANGO

Because of the three Force ghosts at the end of RETURN OF THE JEDI

Because of the O.R. scrubs in RUSHMORE

Because I love WILLOW despite what the critics said

Because of Samara emerging from the television in THE RING

Because of Atreyu calling for Artax in THE NEVERENDING STORY

Because of the batshit crazy ANTICHRIST, MELANCHOLIA, and NYMPHOMANIAC

Because of the family bonding in the Korean movie THE HOST

Because of the family bonding in the Korean movie A TALE OF TWO SISTERS

Because of the coconuts in MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL

Because of Max Schrek’s make-up in NOSFERATU

Because of Willem Dafoe’s make-up in SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE

Because of the Queen of the Night Aria in AMADEUS

Because of the Pikeys in SNATCH
