Will Chloe “Hit Girl” Moretz play Katniss Everdeen in Hunger Games? She’d “Die to!”

While my money’s on TRUE GRIT newcomer Hailee Steinfeld to win the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’ HUNGER GAMES (a complete shot in the dark, mind you), there’s no denying how talented the equally aged Chloe Moretz is (KICK-ASS, LET ME IN).

And apparently Moretz (seen right) is a fan of the Suzanne Collins novel trilogy, enthusiastically telling the L.A. Times:

“Yeah, I read all of the books…I’d die to play Katniss. It’s such a cool role.”

Any corroborators? I sure as shite haven’t read the novels, so I cannot. I can, however, express my excitement over the prospect of a female, however young, getting an opportunity to rock the spotlight in a badass role. I like how we’re starting to see that trope reemerge.

Anyway, word is Saoirse Ronin is also in the mix for the role of Katniss, but she’ll already be 17 this year and frankly looks too mature to play the role. Besides, it seems she just signed on to play a role in THE HOBBIT. Truth be told though, she may actually be the best actor of the three.

You got an opinion on the matter? Have you read HUNGER GAMES? If so, of the three: Moretz, Steinfeld or Ronin…which would be best to play the part? Or is there another name altogether?
