A concept first pitched by writer Darren Lemke in 1997, GEMINI MAN has finally made its way through production after more than twenty years in development hell and will be coming out this October. After the project passed through the hands of directors like Tony Scott, Curtis Hanson, and Joe Carnahan while Harrison Ford, Chris O'Donnell, Mel Gibson, and Clint Eastwood were considered for the lead, it was the duo of director Ang Lee and Will Smith who got it made.

Scripted by Lemke, David Benioff, and Billy Ray, GEMINI MAN is about

an aging assassin who finds himself in a battle with the ultimate opponent: his clone, who is 25 years younger and at the peak of his abilities.

This allows Smith to play both the 50-year-old assassin and the clone who his half his age.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong co-star in the film, which was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger.

GEMINI MAN is scheduled to reach theatres on October 11th, and it is high on my "must see" list. This looks like it goes to be very cool, a nice mixture of action and emotion.

Two and a half months out from the release, a new trailer for GEMINI MAN has arrived online and can be seen below, along with a featurette that takes a look at how Lee was able to make a movie about Will Smiths of two different generations fighting each other.
