When it was announced that Willow would be getting a Disney+ sequel series in 2022, some questioned the logic of spinning off a movie that was only a mediocre success thirty-three years ago into an expensive series. Wasn’t the film a little too old at this point? Well, it turns out that Disney+ is definitely in on the joke with a behind-the-scenes featurette released today (to mark Disney+ day) where the generation gap between star Warwick Davis and the rest of the cast is very much on display.

As star Amar Chadha-Patel asks, “there’s a movie? Who’s in it?” When Warwick Davis tells him that he was the star and Ron Howard directed it, Patel says he remembers him from Arrested Development and asks if he’s narrating this too. Star Ellie Bamber then asks Davis if they’re going to use The Irishman technology to make him look younger.

It’s actually a pretty funny little video, and the cast seems likeable. Hopefully, it’ll translate to an excellent show, as Willow has the potential to be Disney’s Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. Think about it – what do we know about the world of Willow? They can spin it off a million different ways. Hopefully, they’ll find some room for old faves like Val Kilmer and Joanna Whalley to reprise their roles, but even still, this show could be a winner.

Willow hits Disney+ in 2022, with none other than James Newton Howard apparently on board to compose the soundtrack.

Are you excited about Willow the series?
