The idea of remaking such a classic as ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK is somewhat revolting in some ways, so when it was announced there was actually going to be an ESCAPE remake, I don’t think I was the only one who had a problem with it (check that out HERE).
A few weeks back the rumor was that Len Wiseman, director of the UNDERWORLD series and this summer’s LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD was going to direct. And lookee here, according to Variety, that rumor was true! Wiseman will direct the ESCAPE remake!
This may sound like a dream come true for some of you, or it may sound like puke in a paper bag- either way, we’re stuck with Wiseman bringing Gerard Butler to the big screen as Snake Plissken. I must say I had a blast with the latest DIE HARD movie, and while it wasn’t necessarily masterpiece filmmaking, it sure was entertaining as hell and sported a nice, clean look. Not sure if that’s the ESCAPE we’ll be seeing or not, but it could be worse… Brett Ratner or Paul WS Anderson could be involved. And that would suck.
No word on when production will begin, but if they play their cards right, this could be the big summer movie from New Line in 2008. Stick around, as we’ll be the first to fill you in with all the gory details!
