Director (and lucky bastard married to Kate Beckinsale) Len Wiseman is now gearing up for a foray into the video-game-to-movie biz. Yes, as it has long been rumored (we even reported it here) Wiseman will be responsible for bringing GEARS OF WAR to the big screen for New Line Cinema.
I’m not a big gamer, but I am well aware of the huge following that GEARS has, as well as the action the game entails. Because of this, I think that Wiseman is a fine choice, having proven himself skilled at action/horror with the UNDERWORLD films. His work on last summer’s slam-bang LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD basically seals the deal for me. For all the freaks out there like me (spoken like Ledger’s Joker) that aren’t in the know, here’s GEARS’ gist:
It revolves around a world reeling from an invasion by aliens known as the Locust and a small team of elite soldiers who fight to retake the planet Sera and save its human inhabitants.
Sounds like fine fun to me. I do believe it’s a perfect project for Wiseman. He’ll be developing the script with Chris Morgan whose credits include Universal’s upcoming WANTED and THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT. Alllllrighty then! New Line was looking to secure a summer 2009 release, but further development on the flick will most likely push back that date. I’ll fill you in on more as we hear it.
