I haven’t seen a heck of a lot of new horror flicks recently, but WOLF CREEK is near the top of my list to check out if I ever have the time. The film was a big hit over in its native Austrailia, so it was a no brainer that writer/director/producer Greg McLean has stated that he intends to bring about a sequel. One of these days.
In a chat with Moviehole, McLean stated that while a sequel isn’t on the top of his to-do list, he did say, “I probably will be [doing the sequel]. I want to do it. [The maniac Mick Taylor is] such a great character.” McLean elaborated, saying that while the Weinsteins’ wanted a sequel to the film right away, McLean stuck to his guns and declined.
“It just wasn’t right, because what that says is that the first film’s not serious – it takes something away from it. I’ve never been against popping out sequel after sequel – SAW, for instance, has an ingenious plot that you can do it with that – but [WOLF CREEK] was designed to be a particular kind of horror film, not the kind of film you can just pop ’em up. They get trashy. I’m really proud of the film and I don’t want to just put out a piece of sh*t – so if it takes two or three years, it doesn’t matter.”
Like the old adage goes, ‘Good things come to those who wait.’
