Wolf Creek director Greg McLean directing micro-budget thriller for Lionsgate

The effects of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY‘s massive succes are still being felt. Inspired by the low-risk, high-reward of both PARANORMAL movies – as well as their SAW series – Lionsgate is embarking on a slate of micro-budget flicks, all with budgets under $2 million. Two of the films don’t really seem in our wheelhouse – one is a coming-of-age tale, one is a post-apocalyptic comedy (actually, might have to see how that one pans out) – but the third most certainly needs to be addressed.

6 MIRANDA DRIVE will be written and directed by Greg McLean, the Aussie helmer of WOLF CREEK and ROGUE. The flick is about a family that unwittingly brings a supernatural force home with them from vacation.

I suppose they should just be happy that it isn’t malaria they’re bringing home…

While Lionsgate apparently expects several of the low-budget efforts to be shot and distributed in 3D, it’s unclear whether or not 6 MIRANDA DRIVE will be among them. The studio expects about 10 films will be produced each year under the micro-budget umbrella, most of which will fall into the comedy or horror genres.

In the meantime, we’ll keep an eye out for more details on McLean’s effort.
