Many thought last year’s based-on-a-true-story slasher flick WOLF CREEK to be one of the better horror films to have come out in awhile. Some liked the all-out terror, others just dug the fact that it actually happened. But still, this is kind of an odd choice: ITV (a U.K. TV broadcaster) and Network Ten (out of Australia) are teaming together to produce a made-for-TV retelling of the same true story WOLF CREEK was based on.
TO CATCH A KILLER will follow the tale of the British backpacker murdered back in 2001 in the Aussie outback. The budget is pretty large for a TV movie (about $ 5 Million), and it’s looking to air sometime next year. Why this is weird to me is that it’s already been done- and not only that, but considering the subject matter, is making the movie for TV the best idea? Who would want to watch that when WOLF CREEK is so badass? Given, UK TV is not nearly as censored as the drivel we have here in the States, but it still won’t be all-out like CREEK was.
Stay tuned for more news around TO CATCH A KILLER, and if you’re in the UK, look for it on TV next year. And maybe if we’re lucky, they’ll release a version on DVD here in the States after it’s aired. Or maybe not.
