Wonder Woman 1984 allowed Pedro Pascal the chance to ham it up

Believe it or not, but Wonder Woman 1984 was originally slated to hit theaters last year, and Warner Bros. wound up shuffling the release of the film several times before COVID-19 forced even more delays, but at long last, Wonder Woman 1984 found a home on December 25th where it will be released in theaters and on HBO Max (in 4K Ultra HD no less).

With the release of the Wonder Woman sequel now just a few weeks away, we'll finally get to experience Diana Prince's (Gal Gadot) latest adventure for ourselves, as well as be formally introduced to the new characters. One of those new characters is Maxwell Lord, a charismatic businessman and entrepreneur played by The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Pascal said that Wonder Woman 1984 allowed him to play against type and really ham it up.

With Wonder Woman, [Gal Gadot and Kristen Wiig] are doing the action, baby, and I'm doing the schm-acting! I am hamming it up!

Pacal added that he found inspiration in Nicolas Cage, who he's starring alongside in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, for at least one scene. I can't wait. Although the character of Maxwell Lord was a little out of his comfort zone, Pascal felt comforted by the detailed screenplay by Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns, and David Callaham. "I didn't have to take something and figure out how to put more flesh onto it. I had to achieve getting into the skin of what was being presented to me," Pedro says, comparing his experience to his time on Narcos. "For me, Colombia was almost the central character, and then I was allowed to make him depressive and to tonally interpret what the character was. And in this case [on Wonder Woman 1984], there was just so much for me to meet rather than to invent. That was an incredible delight and challenge because Patty Jenkins is a director who loves actors and when she sees she can ask for more, she does. And there isn't anyone better, in my experience, to give more to." Wonder Woman 1984 will be bringing the action into the 1980s and find Wonder Woman (Gadot) facing off against Maxwell Lord (Pascal) and The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). Wonder Woman 1984 will debut in theaters and on HBO Max in the U.S. on December 25th, but will debut in select international markets on December 16th.
