Woodstock trailer

Last night on his new hit Comedy Central series, comedian Demetri Martin premiered the trailer for TAKING WOODSTOCK. The dramedy stars Martin in his first lead role as the son of motel owners in upstate New York who inadvertently helps launch Woodstock when he looks for a way to keep his family from defaulting on their mortgage. Ang Lee (BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN) directed the script based on the true story of Elliot Tiber (who wrote a book about his adventures).

While the trailer looks pretty good, they seem to be excluding one major element of the story: Tiber is gay. While that may seem to be a sidenote, it’s big part of the story. As Martin himself describes the story, “We’re focusing more on the family relationship and this guy’s personal journey, as a gay person who is in the closet in 1969 as that relates to making Woodstock happen and finding yourself as a generation is finding itself.” Would it be that bad to at least hint at that in the trailer? Are we still afraid of the gay stigma? Check out the trailer for yourself below…
