Although THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES doesn’t hit theaters until August 23rd, Constantin Films has already began working on a prequel, INFERNAL DEVICES. There’s definitely a lot of potential with a film like this raking in some big numbers at the box offices so this news should come to no one’s surprise. Either they know they’ve got a hit on their hands or they’re being very hopeful. Details below!

THR reports, The company has thrown into development INFERNAL DEVICES, an adaptation of the spin-off book series written by Mortal Instruments author Cassandra Clare, and has hired Stephanie Sanditz to write the screenplay. Mortal Instruments, a best-selling series of fantasy romance books, centers on a young girl who discovers she is part of a hidden race of angels known as Shadowhunters locked in a battle with warlocks and vampires called Downworlders.

Once THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES hits theaters in August and depending on how well it does I’m sure we’ll have much more on this once it becomes available. The film is helmed by Harald Zwart and stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Durand and Jared Harris. It is set to be released in theaters on August 23, 2013.
