Wright talks Grindhouse

Minutes after revealing my girlish excitement for Edgar Wright’s GRINDHOUSE trailer, I come across some interview snippets with the funny Brit himself, conducted by Dark Horizons, and some juicy details are revealed. The plumpest, juiciest one is that some “big stars” show up in the trailer, which apparently was prepped, shot, edited, AND delivered in 6 days… It took me 6 days to write the last two articles, so I’m impressed, and ashamed (I’m psychic, but a slow writer, so it balances out).

As Eli Roth’s trailer was inspired by all those holiday-themed slasher flicks (his is entitled THANKSGIVING!), Wright found inspiration in “American trailers for European films,” meaning we can expect a narrator speaking entirely over an obviously European production, minus any actual dialogue from the characters, the better to mask their foreign roots or horribly dubbed voices.

This is reinforcing a strange feeling I have about GRINDHOUSE: that the trailers will be so much fun that we’ll just want to see those movies instead. Always the trouble with great trailers… Do you think the original purveyors of grindhouse cinema, in all their wildest dreams, ever thought their crummy little genre would one day culminate in the event that is GRINDHOUSE? I guess I’d like to think so…
