Suicide Girls had a chance to sit down with director Joe Lynch on the set of his latest film, WRONG TURN 2. And while I could give a flying f*ck about the original, I must say hearing Lynch discuss what’s in store for the sequel has made me think this one may surpass its predecessor.
First, the premise. While it didn’t work for HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, I think the ‘reality-TV’ angle WT2 is taking is the right way to go and will work well. See, Henry f*cking Rollins hosts an Ultimate Survivor reality TV show in the woods… that happen to be inhabited by a family of cannibalistic inbred psychopaths. Yeah, it’s pretty sweet.
Second, check out what Lynch had to say about the sequel’s gore factor: My approach was that the first film was more Alien and this film is more Aliens. Fox knew right off the bat that for a sequel you have to up the ante… Every time I would come up with something disgusting like the “axe wound” scene. I’d describe it and they would be like, “That is absolutely fucking disgusting.” But I never once heard “that’s too much” or “We’ll never be able to do that.”
As in, this straight-to-DVD slaughterfest may actually just be released unrated and out of control. And since we’re talking WT2, there’s really no other reason to watch except to see a lot of people dieing in brutal ways.
If you check out the entire interview, you can see why this STD sequel just got upped on it’s coolness factor- especially if it lives up to Lynch’s expectations. Right on! WT2 is looking to hit DVD shelves sometime next year.
