While fans of “The X-Files” desperately cling to any shred of hope for a 3rd feature film, it seems showrunner Chris Carter (no, not the dude who catches TDs) is moving on. Or if you will, going back!

According to Deadline, Carter is headed back to TV with a mysterious drama series he’ll write, direct and exec-produce. Word is the show, which revolves around a strong female lead, is currently being shopped to various networks in town. MRC is producing.

As for Carter, dude’s been largely absent the public eye since “The X-Files” ended in 2002. He did pop up in ’08 for THE X-FILES sequel, and now has a thriller with Katie Cassidy called FENCEWALKER in post-production. Why we haven’t heard about that is by Carter’s design I’m guessing…though now I’m impelled to dig around for more on it.

And while the shovel’s out, get ready for more on Carter’s mysterious new series as find it.
