X-Files creator Chris Carter may be returning to television with The After

As an enormous fan of THE X-FILES, I have been left wondering where the hell Chris Carter has been. Since 2008 and the release of THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE, we have had zip from the man. Granted, he never had the success of a JJ Abrams seeing as every one of his post Mulder and Scully projects collapsed after less than three seasons. He had a project in development last year that never made it to series as well as a film called FENCEWALKER that pretty much disappeared off anyone’s radar.

Carter is currently developing a new sci-fi series called THE AFTER with Georgeville Television, the studio behind the Wachowski’s series SENSE8, NBC’s pirate series CROSSBONES, and SyFy’s BLAKE’S 7 reboot. Little is known of the plot aside from this snippet from the press release: THE AFTER takes place in the aftermath of a mysterious and unexplained happening. It will incorporate “elements of science fiction, suspense, and real-world fear and paranoia,”

This could be another X-FILES or another HARSH REALM. It all depends on where the series ends up being produced and if they are willing to devote the same quality that Carter’s name previously carried. With so many apocalyptic series on the air these days (REVOLUTION, THE WALKING DEAD, FALLING SKIES), Carter hopefully has some sort of trick up his sleeve to make the magic happen again.

Now if he can just get David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back.
