Talk of a third X-FILES filmed started almost immediately after X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE and lasted long after the film tanked. The last time we heard talk on a possible third film came back in September… then nothing. Until now!

You see Screen Daily recently got a chance to chat with X-FILES scribe Frank Spotnitz and a little hope for another X-FILES flick trickled out. Now the topic of conversation was Spotnitz’s new UK spy series HUNTED but that doesn’t mean THE X-FILES wasn’t talked about. When asked about the potential for another X-FILES film Spotnitz responded with:

“There is a very active and relentless fan campaign for a last movie. I do feel like it would be a terrible shame if that didn’t happen. It feels wrong not to give it an ending around the alien colonisation of earth. David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] (below) feel the same. I have a clear idea of how it would go and I’ve been talking to Chris Carter about it for a long time. I’ll keep banging the drum whenever I meet the Fox guys [the studio holds the sequel rights but was disappointed by the original’s lackluster box office].”

So I think it’s safe to say he’s definitely in! Hell we’re talking THE X-FILES here. There are still plenty of people out ther who dig the shite out of that franchise so there’s always a possibility another sequel would work. Especially if done right. And let’s face it, you can’t get much worse than I WANT TO BELIEVE can you?

To check out the rest of the interview head right over HERE. If any other news regarding a third X-FILES flick breaks you can bet we’ll be right here to tell you about it.
