You may have heard the rumor that Martin Scorsese, in an homage to Howard Hawks’ SCARFACE, hid Xs all throughout THE DEPARTED. To be honest, I was too caught up in the movie to notice all the instances, but a reporter for the Miami Herald used his screener DVD to go back and capture some of the instances from the film. The idea behind the Xs is that they’re supposed to signal “impending doom.” It’s a pretty neat read and something to look for when the DVD makes its way public on February 13th.
