Yellowstone 1883: Tom Hanks will appear in Civil War flashback

Yellowstone, 1883, Tom Hanks, News of the World

We’re just a week out from the debut of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel series 1883, and it seems that there will be a few famous faces making appearances. Deadline has reported that none other than Tom Hanks will be showing up in the second season of Yellowstone: 1883 during a flashback to the Civil War.

The flashback scene will bring the Battle of Antietam to life, which was one of the bloodiest days in American history with a total of 22,717 soldiers on both sides dead, wounded, or missing. After being blown to the ground during the battle, James Dutton (Tim McGraw) sits dazed among the dead when he feels a gloved hand on his shoulder. He looks up and sees a sympathetic three-star general inspired by General George Meade played by Tom Hanks. According to Taylor Sheridan, there will be several “star surprises” over the course of the first season of Yellowstone: 1883 in addition to Tom Hanks. We also know that Billy Bob Thornton will also be appearing as a “no-nonsense sheriff in Fort Worth, Texas who shows no quarter to an ornery group of horse thieves who commit crimes against the caravan of settlers heading west to Montana.” You can check out a photo of Tom Hanks in Yellowstone: 1883 below.

Starring Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill, 1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana. The prequel series is set to debut on Paramount+ on December 19th.
