Your Honor, Bryan Cranston, Season 2, Showtime

Showtime’s Your Honor has a clear end in sight and it’s coming up pretty soon, according to series star Bryan Cranston, and the series is set to end after the upcoming season 2.

Cranston revealed the news on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert Podcast. Filming on season 2 has just recently started and Joey Harstone, who served as a writer during season one, will be the new showrunner for the series during its final season. Other news revealed, via Deadline, is that Keith Machekanyanga, who recurred during season one as Lil Mo, has been bumped up to a series regular for season two. Here is what Cranston had to say about season two:

“I am [currently] preparing for the second and last season of Your Honor, which is a limited series that I did for Showtime. As they tell me, it got higher ratings than any other series they’ve ever had — and so, one more season of that.”

Your Honor began its life as a limited series but it turned out to be a significant ratings hit for Showtime. The show became the most-watched debut season on the cable network ever with 6.6 weekly viewers turning in. Following the success of the first season, the show was renewed for a 10-episode second season last year. Peter Moffat served as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner during season one but he has opted not to return for season two because he is based in the UK and wanted to remain close to his family. David Manson was initially brought on as the new showrunner but he subsequently left and was replaced by Harstone.

Season one of Your Honor was based on the Israeli series Kvodo, which was created by Ron Ninio and Shlomo Mashiach. The show follows Crantons’s Michael Desiato, a respected New Orleans judge whose teenage son is involved in a hit-and-run. The event leads to a series of impossible choices as Desiato has to question his own morals when it comes to protecting his son at all costs. The show also stars Hunter Doohan, Hope Davis, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Michael Stuhlbarg, and Carmen Ejogo.
