Now here's a movie I knew absolutely nothing about and a trailer that makes it look damn entertaining! Set in the world of electronic music and Hollywood nightlife (because that's totally a world), an aspiring 23-year-old DJ named Cole (Zac Efron) spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that will set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James (Wes Bentley), who takes him under his wing. Okay, so it's ROCKY set in the DJ world. Still, I'm digging the DOGTOWN visual aesthetic and maybe it's just me, but that Efron character is growing on me. I'd say his stint in NEIGHBORS helped pave the way for that. I always appreciate an actor who's not afraid to make fun of himself. If this film can keep the energy up and the characters genuine, maybe we'll have something fun to experience in a few months. I'm not saying it's going to be WHIPLASH or anything, but we can do way worse. On a totally unrelated note, POLTERGEIST hits theaters this weekend…
