Zachary Quinto reveals he’s not really attached to Star Trek 4 anymore

STAR TREK is arguably one of the most popular science fiction franchises of all-time on both film and TV. While its life seems to be thriving on television with the CBS All Access shows Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, the future of the cinematic universe remains uncertain. STAR TREK BEYOND in 2016 was the last time we saw the rebooted STAR TREK cast get together after giving the franchise new life in the 2009 J.J. Abrams film and now Zachary Quinto, who played Commander Spock in the latest films, is revealing he doesn't think he or his fellow crew members are attached to a fourth film.

While speaking with "Comicbook.com", Quinto says that he would be thrilled to return to the franchise as would the rest of the cast but so far there is nothing in the work with their STAR TREK crew:

"It's already thriving in television format with Discovery and Picard and the spinoffs. I can't even keep track of how many new Star Trek stories are being told since our last film in 2016. All I know is that we, all of us, had an incredible experience making those films. If there is an appetite for more of those stories with us in them, I'm sure that we would all be thrilled to come back and do one more or whatever, but I'm not really attached to it anymore."

Zachary Quinto's comments seem pretty similar to Simon Pegg's, who co-stars in the films as Montgomery "Scotty" Scott. Pegg has gone beyond just saying he doesn't think anything is in the works and has been pretty vocal about Paramount Pictures not really knowing what to do with STAR TREK, especially in a box office world dominated by Marvel films that pull in massive global grosses. STAR TREK just isn't that franchise and since budgets on the new films continue to rise and rise, it makes the return on investment hard to justify. Quinto went on to elaborate on finally stepping away from thinking he'll get to do another STAR TREK film:

"I stepped away from any expectation or any real certainty that it's ever going to happen again. I think that's the only real way to move through the world, right? If it happens, that'd be great, but I'm not going to sit around waiting for it to happen. I have a ton of other stuff in my life, in my career. I have lifelong friendships from those films and working relationships and a lot of respect and fond memories, so if that's what it ends up being and I can look back on my life and say that's what it was, then that's incredible, and if we get to do more, that's also incredible. But as far as the stories go, they've been around for decades and generations, and I think that will continue, whether or not we continue on with them."

I respect Quinto's positivity about the whole thing but I would love to see these guys come back for another movie. I'm by no mean a "Trekkie" but I have enjoyed the rebooted films a great deal and that had a lot to do with the chemistry of the cast which also includes Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and the late Anton Yelchin. There are no confirmed plans for a fourth STAR TREK film as of yet but Noah Hawley of Fargo and Legion is currently working on a script for a STAR TREK movie but it's unclear if this is a continuation of the new crew or a whole new story entirely. There were also rumors that Quentin Tarantino wanted to make a presumably more violent and hard R-rated STAR TREK film but that has yet to come to fruition. As Quinto said, there are many stories to tell with this franchise but I honestly think his crew has another good film left in them.

Would YOU want to see this STAR TREK cast return or should they start fresh?
