The zombie genre has really grown on me over the last decade. I used to just think a “zombie movie” would merely entail a bunch of slow-moving corpses with shitty acne looking to eat your brain. However, as time went by, the “definition of the dead” began to expand. Some zombies could move fast, some could speak, some were risen because slugs had invaded their brains. My point is, infusing interesting dashes of originality helped keep the walking dead fresh and fun. Plus, with a genre like this, you’ll usually find ample room for major gore as well as comedy (always a plus in my book).
Which brings me to the latest offering in zombie uniqueness from writer/director JT Seaton called GEORGE’S INTERVENTION. The flick envisions a world where humans and zombies co-exist (kind of like FIDO, I guess). Here’s the plot: George is a relaxed ghoul who enjoys video games and terrycloth robes. However, he is starting to lose a bit of his cool lately, disturbing those around him. This leads them to confront him about his decidedly unhealthy lifestyle.
Here’s how Seaton describes the scenario: “The zombieism in our film is accepted in society—there are tech support hotlines. It’s a given, it’s expected. The goal of a zombie intervention, including George’s, is to convince them to go to rehab. It’s there that they can learn how to curb their people-eating tendencies and change their ways and behavior—including their diet, by introducing supplements like ‘Tofu Flesh.’”
A “zombie rehab”? Excellent! I think we may be on the verge of another homerun in the walking dead genre. I love the idea of “Tofu Flesh”!
