I'm not a big fan of horror movies, but I'm a big fan of John Cusack (who seems to never age) and also of Sam Jackson (who seems to never be smiling unless he has just killed some fool), so I'm still undecided as to whether I'll see 1408. The movie is based on a short story by Stephen King about a writer (Cusack) who is doing some research on a book about paranormal experiences. He checks into the famously haunted room 1408 at a New York city hotel and then loads of scary stuff happens I guess. Someone today asked me, isn't that the premise of like half of Stephen King's stories? THE SHINING? SECRET WINDOW? Well if he's written 6 books in his life, then yeah I guess it is.

Extra Tidbit: Best movie with a number in the title? I'd go with 12 MONKEYS. No doubt.

IT (tv) was bad
Desperation (tv) was bad
Pet Cemetary (movie) was bad
Secret Window (movie) was bad

Then again, a lot of the non-horror was pretty good. Stand by Me, Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption so who knows?

I have read the short story 1408, and it's pretty good. That being said, the movie looks like it has a lot of crap added into the story, so it's probably gonna suck.

Ah, it's nice to hear agreement on that matter. You're officially the first person (aside from a professional critic) who has seen eye-to-eye with me on that. Word.

Best movie with a number in it? First off, imo of course, Se7en and 300 sucked hard. I think it's absolutely no contest - 2001: A Space Odyssey.

did you forget about se7en. or 300. both those films are better then 12 monkeys.

I think that Cusack's character is trying to disprove the supernatural.
