Leonardo DiCaprio will produce and is attached to star in an upcoming biopic of Atari creator Nolan Bushnell. Written by Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman (BART GOT A ROOM) the script will follow the life of the godfather of videogames. Bushnell brought kids' dreams to life with the creation of the Atari 2600 and kids' nightmares to life with the launch of the Chuck E Cheese restaurants (those animatronic mice were just plain creepy). Bushnell and Hecker were able to convince Bushnell to sign over his life rights after many had tried and failed (I'm sure flattering him with the casting of DiCaprio didn't hurt). With BLINK, AKIRA and now ATARI, DiCaprio has got a decidedly fanboy-friendly slate lined up at his Appian Way production company. DiCaprio is currently filming SHUTTER ISLAND for Martin Scorsese and despite a number of these other projects being hot, he hasn't decided on his next project (c'mon, just do AKIRA...you know you want to!).

Source: Variety

Extra Tidbit: Apple guru Steve Jobs once worked for Bushnell at Atari.

As far as this goes...eh, we'll see. So far the title sucks. But with AKIRA, does anyone else think that they stick closer to the source material? Why can't they have some balls and do it in Japan with Japanese actors speaking the native language? Film it with an American crew and subtitle it, like Warners did with LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA? Where are their souls? C'MON!! Anyone? Yay? Nay?

Leo in DBZ = Awesome
I think sniper's comment on DBZ was a joke. It doesn't actually require your analysis Jeanericuser.

As for the Atari being past it's prime... the movie is about the creator of the atari, not the gaming system itself. Electricity's been around for a while, but I'd love to see a biopic on Edison. If Bushnell was an interesting man with an interesting life, I don't care what he inv...

hehehe
uh sniper, the atari has not had a major success in consoles for over a decade. The atari system this is based around is over 30 years old which means only those who are in their late 30s or 40s will remember entirely what this console was truly like during its hey day which this movie is based on. This is definately not something that leo should get attached to and besides its likely a movie that will barely garner in more than a few million unlike some of those movies you referenced. As for those, only gangs of new york and the departed made any real serious money. As for leo in DBZ, what is he gonna play as? Some blond dude with big muscles that is gonna yell alot while shooting fireballs from his fingers. Gee that will not be very kind on his career.

WTF
jeanericuser DiCaprio's last five films were Blood Diamond, The Departed, The Aviator, Catch Me If You Can, and Gangs of New York. I would say he's on quite the role. He could star in the Dragonball Z movie and it's 12 sequels and it wouldn't hurt his career. "The atari is past its prime and easily forgotten", What are you like 12?

As Bane said it best in Batman 4, "Bomb!!!" The atari is past its prime and easily forgotten which is suffice to say what will happen to leo's career if he stars in a few more bombs like this.
