With ONLY GOD FORGIVES getting booed at Cannes and panned by many who have already seen it, what did they expect that to do for interest in the movie? I saw several people that weren’t originally too hip to checking it out then suddenly wanting to see what all the fuss was about. Boos create buzz.
Very soon everyone will get to see another Nicolas Winding Refn-Gosling effort. Does it seem a lot like DRIVE? Crazy violence, a guy who doesn’t talk much, and a fantastic score? Check, check, and check! However, this has Kristin Scott Thomas as a mother looking for vengeance for her deceased son. But why do I get the feeling that she doesn’t really need her son’s help? The latest trailer focuses more on the relationship between Thomas and Gosling. There’s some new stuff as well as some you’ve already seen. According to those boosome critics, Thomas’ performance was the best part.
Synopsis: Julian, an Englishman living in Bangkok, is a respected figure in the criminal underworld. He and his brother Billy run a Thai boxing club which is in fact a front for smuggling drugs to London. When Billy is murdered, their mother Jenna arrives from London to bring back the body. Jenna is herself the head of a powerful criminal organization and is used to getting exactly what she wants. She sets out to settle the score along a bloody path of rage, betrayal, and vengeance, hurtling toward an ultimate confrontation and the possibility of redemption.
