Strike Back below!
by: Daniel Barna Apr. 20, 2009

The first image has emerged from Peter Jackson's upcoming drama THE LOVELY BONES, and it features little Saoirse Ronan as 14 year-old Susie Salmon. The film is narrated by Ronan's character, who from heaven comments on the world below, after she is murdered by her neighbour. This photo actually appears as though it may be of Susie looking down from heaven. If this is indeed Jackson's take on heaven, I must say it's exactly how I envisioned it, with far fewer implants of course.

Based on Alice Sebold's book and co=starring Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, and Stanley Tucci, THE LOVELY BONES hits theatres on December 11th, 2009.

The only movie I liked Wahlberg in was The Departed. Otherwise, yeah, the guy's the epitome of bland.

But..I'm still somewhat looking forward to this movie, if only because Peter Jackson's directing it. And Rachel Weisz is in it, which is always nice.

for the record, Gosling was fired after being cast because he arrived at the beginning of shooting overweight and with a beard (as he wanted to look more like the traditional "father" type) but Jackson was pissed because it was not what he had in mind when he cast him. I guess it actually is a creative difference (for once).

um
RE Rohan: It's based on a book. It is told from the girl in heaven's perspective, so no, it is not realistic. I thought it was a good book though. I don't think Marky Mark was a good choice for the dad. Gosling, although young, would have been better.

Kidding me.
All the waiting is for nothing?

I thought this is going to be a realistic drama by PJ. I didn't knew this is based on a story of a girl who talks from heaven. Give me a break.

Is this a fairy tale?

Its really unfortunate that Gosling was replaced (creative differences, fired, whatever). He's an actor that's just compelling to watch (amazing in both Lars and the Real Girl and Half-Nelson). I am far less interested now that Wahlberg is playing that role instead. He's such a one-dimensional actor and he plays all of his roles the same.

vision of heaven?
If this is heaven, it was apparently art directed by the Apple design team. Pretty soon even the JoBlo.com logo will have a reflection effect underneath it.

Hey goat, you hear that my daughter was murdered. Yeah, that sucks. Say hi to your mother for me.

It's a shame Ryan Gosling was fired from this movie. He would have been great as a grieving father (I base myself on his performance in Half-Nelson as a screwed up teacher).
