Strike Back below!
by: Mike Sampson Dec. 31, 2009

Sony Pictures has a pretty action heavy 2010 slate with SALT, LEGION, PRIEST, TAKERS and even their romantic comedy THE BOUNTY HUNTER has action elements. Two of the films I'm looking forward to most - THE GREEN HORNET and THE SOCIAL NETWORK - don't come out until later in the year though. Check out the look at their entire 2010 schedule below!

LEGION
(January 22)

In the supernatural action thriller Legion, an out-of-the-way diner becomes the unlikely battleground for the survival of the human race. When God loses faith in Mankind, he sends his legion of angels to bring on the Apocalypse. Humanity's only hope lies in a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner and the Archangel Michael (Paul Bettany).

DEAR JOHN
(February 5)

Directed by Lasse Hallström and based on the novel by best-selling author Nicholas Sparks, DEAR JOHN tells the story of John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a young soldier home on leave, and Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), the idealistic college student he falls in love with during her spring vacation. Over the next seven tumultuous years, the couple is separated by John's increasingly dangerous deployments. While meeting only sporadically, they stay in touch by sending a continuous stream of love letters overseas—correspondence that eventually triggers fateful consequences.

Directed by Neil LaBute, Death at a Funeral is a hilarious day in the life of an American family come together to put a beloved husband and father to rest. TAKERS
(May 14)

TAKERS takes you into the world of a notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) who continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. They are in and out like clockwork, leaving no evidence behind and laying low between heists. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who is hell-bent on solving the case.

THE KARATE KID
(June 11)

12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying—and the feeling is mutual—but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

GROWN UPS
(June 25)

Grown Ups, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, is a comedy about five friends and former teammates who reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. With their wives (Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph) and kids in tow, they spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend together at the lake house where they celebrated their championship years earlier. Picking up where they left off, they discover why growing older doesn't mean growing up.

SALT

Angelina Jolie stars in Salt, a contemporary action thriller from Columbia Pictures. As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who Is Salt?"

THE OTHER GUYS
(August 6)

Set in New York City, The Other Guys follows Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell), a forensic accountant who's more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg), a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter. Allen and Terry idolize the city's top cops, Danson and Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don't quite go as planned.

EAT, PRAY, LOVE

Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali.

“Priest” is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. But when his 18-year-old niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires in the desolate wastelands outside, Priest breaks his sacred vows and ventures out to find her and seek vengeance upon those responsible, especially their brutal leader (Karl Urban). Priest is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, Hicks (Cam Gigandet), a local outpost sheriff, and Priestess (Maggie Q), a member of his former legion of vampire-killers who has otherworldly fighting skills.

With the help of a sharp-witted stage manager (Stanley Tucci) and gender-bending host (Alan Cumming), Ali makes her way from the bar to the stage. Her spectacular voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory, though not before a charismatic entrepreneur (Eric Dane) arrives with an enticing proposal…

Thank You SONY....
Thank you SONY for butchering my childhood with this Karate Kid Remake, first off, casting Will Smith's kid, gigantic mistake, He's like five years old!

Then you cast Will Ferrell in what appears to be a "serious" role?!

Does Chris Brown give any bank tellers the backhand if they don't cooperate in Takers?

keep on raping me Sony with no vaseline

I really hope The Bounty Hunter is the last movie Gerard Butler ever comes out with. As for the rest, this is a pretty dreadful list minus Social Network, Other Guys, and TGH.

The Social Network is the only film on that list I'm excited for. I'll probably see The Green Hornet and The Other Guys...as far as the rest go, wow, terrible.

Terrible Line Up
Their first quarter line up is terrible. The worst part is that a lot of those movies will make tons of cash the way Paul Blart & Taken did earlier this year. I have some hope for The Green Hornet & The Other Guys. But I bet The Social Network ends up being the best film out of their batch. Fincher directing that is way too odd and apparently the script is incredible. Plus Jesse Eisenberg is...

The only must see on this list is....
"The Green Hornet." I am saving my judgment of it till a trailer comes out, but I trust in Seth in giving us something that is a mix of his style, the old serials, and something we'd see from other superhero movies.

Death at a Funeral
I actually saw the trailer for Death at a Funeral before Up in the Air last night...it actually looks funny. Cris Rock is funny, Danny Glover, I like Tracy Morgan...looks like it could be a good time.
