Some of her recent filmography (THE LOVE GURU, FANTASTIC FOUR) to the contrary, superior posterior specimen Jessica Alba has occasionally stated her desire to be taken more seriously as an actress.

Teaming with an Oscar-nominated actor like Casey Affleck and an acclaimed director such as Michael Winterbottom (A MIGHTY HEART) could be a step on the right path. Alba will co-star with Casey in Winterbottom's THE KILLER INSIDE ME, based on Jim Thompson's 1952 noir novel.

The story involves an amiable small-town Texas lawman wrestling with a dark secret, demonstrated through increasingly sociopathic actions. And there's also a whore, who's being played by Alba, and I think plenty of us will show up for Albawhore.

The novel was previously adapted in 1976 with Stacy Keach playing the violent deputy sheriff.

I'm hip to the fact that Casey Affleck is playing a sociopath. He was creepy as hell in Assassination of Jesse James, the true winner of Best Supporting Actor.

me thinks jessica should show some skin to be taken seriously.

she got wildly popular as a stripper in sin city(and just being hot), but starring in cringe-worty movies later pulled her star down a couple of notches. (and getting pregnant didnt do any good either)

I love all of Thompson's previous work.
Thompson's previous stuff is great. But I don't give two shits about Alba.



I really think she's never going to hit her stride. She's usually the worst part of the movies she's in.



There are other female third year acting students out there that are damn pretty and would run circles around Alba.



But alas, fate had it's way and she is what she is.

Little Affleck is getting better and better each movie.

Whoa, crazy! I'm reading the book right now! Well, not RIGHT now; I'm online right now. But what I'm saying is that I'm in the middle of reading the book! What are the odds?! A noir novel from 1952, outta nowhere they're making the movie, right when I'm reading it.

Oh, and yeah, I don't see this role helping Jessica (I call her Jessica) to boost her acting credibility all that much. It's a good story, but that role isn't (so far) the kinda thing that I'd expect to really get her "noticed" as a great actress.



I could be wrong, but that would be a first.

Y'know what? I think this might be closer than you think to turning her into a serious actress.



Michael Winterbottom is an unusually serious director who I'd never expect to attempt adapting a Jim Thompson novel, not that I don't think he could do it. He's just more of a socio-political documentary-style filmmaker.



And hookers in film noir are never simple.

The part of me that feels sorry for Alba wants to slap her upside the head and tell playing another whore isn't really the right way to go if you wanna be taken seriously, then another side of me *looks down* reminds myself that it's jessica alba and not to give a shit.

Man, I remember for a little while there, like right after she did Sin City all the fanboys absolutely loved Alba. Then like six months later everybody hated her. How the heck did she destroy all that good will so quickly?
