Sadly we won’t be getting James Cameron’s ALIENS in 3-D but now that the 3-D technology has been fine-tuned we’re getting the first fully developed 3-D CGI animated movie from DreamWorks. MONSTERS VS. ALIENS will be developed by DreamWorks Animation as an entirely 3-D production. Though Disney had applied 3-D technology to some of its films in post-production (CHICKEN LITTLE, MEET THE ROBINSONS), MONSTERS will be the first film to create two separate films (2-D and 3-D) from the outset. MONSTERS, previously titled REX HAVOC, follows an alien invasion of Earth and a monster hunter, Rex Havoc, enlists some of his former foes – Ick!, Dr. Cockroach, the 50,000 Pound Woman, and Insectosaurus (that’s a concept of Insectosaurus below, which you can click on to see a bigger version of) – to help battle the aliens. DreamWorks is planning MONSTERS for a 2009 release after KUNG-FU PANDA and MADAGASCAR 2 in 2008. 2008 will also see the release of the first live-action film utilizing the new digital 3-D process, JOURNEY 3-D starring Brendan Fraser in a retelling of JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.
