Beverly Hills Cop 4 is on patrol to cast a big name as Axel's partner

09.15.2017

For my money, Martin Brest's BEVERLY HILLS COP was one of the best action comedies to come out of the 1980s. Eddie Murphy was in his prime, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton made for the perfect bumbling officer duo and Lisa Eilbacher delivered a smart and sexy performance as Jenny Summers in the film. It's a classic piece of cinema that I make a point of watching at least once a year, if not more.

For quite some time, there have been rumors of a BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 coming to fruition, though complications surrounding the project have kept it in cinematic limbo something fierce. Back in May of 2015, it was reported that Paramount had removed BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 from its release schedule. Add to that the fact that Murphy said that he was unhappy with the script and you've got a recipe for stagnation on a grand scale. As a fan of the franchise, I haven't been able to come down on whether or not I think this is all a blessing in disguise or a complete and total shame.

Recently, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah appeared on the #1 talk show in Holland called "De wereld draait door" which translates to "The World Turns." While there, the pair had mentioned that had held a sort of "audition for Eddie Murphy" for the film. Furthermore, Arbi and Fallah shared that Jerry Bruckheimer has become interested in them due to their work on a film called BLACK.

In addition to that news, the directors stated the following about the film: it would be made on a $50 million dollar budget, they will shoot primarily in Detroit, and that they're in the process of casting Axel Foley's counterpart for the action adventure. In talking about the film's plot, it was said that in the years since the events of BEVERLY HILLS COP 3, Foley has become a seasoned Beverly Hills cop and will now clash with a hardened cop from Detroit. The directors had named dropped Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum as possible casting choices for the antagonist's role.

Well, the skeleton of this thing certainly is doing an interesting dance to say the least. I can definitely picture a "I'm too old for this shit" Foley squaring off against a grizzled officer with an ax to grind. What do you think of this premise? Who would cast opposite of Murphy for his characters return to the big screen? Let us know in the comments section below!

Extra Tidbit: So long as they don't go back to that Wonder World theme park I think we'll be okay.
