Cameron Diaz will star opposite Colin Firth in the Coen Brothers scripted remake of Gambit

Why am I surprised by this news?

Cameron Diaz will be co-starring with Colin Firth in the remake of GAMBIT.

The 1966 original starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. In this update, Firth stars as, “a London art curator who plans to con a wealthy collector into buying a phony Monet painting. He enlists a Texas steer roper (Diaz) to pose as a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.” The Coens did the screenplay on this. Michael Hoffman (THE LAST STATION) is the one helming.

But why Diaz? Of all the possible choices in the entire world, what did Diaz do that was so special? I used to enjoy Diaz in the past (the 90’s) but having to constantly hear her name and see her in shit that I don’t care to see has become too much. This woman in no way measures up to the greatness of Shirley MacLaine. Maybe I’m going to hard on her but she needs to take a break then come back and do some mind blowing. Then again, we never know. This could redeem her.
