Captain America: Civil War tracking to open with $175 million

It's pretty much a given at this point that CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is going to make a boatload of cash, and according to THR, the thirteenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on track for an opening weekend of $175 million. If the tracking is accurate, the movie will score the fifth biggest domestic opening ever behind STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($248 million), JURASSIC WORLD ($208 million), THE AVENGERS ($207 million) and AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ($191 million).

However, there's some who believe that CIVIL WAR may come close to hitting $200 million in its first weekend, especially with the hype surrounding the film and the strong early reviews, and tracking numbers aren't always reliable. Jon Favreau's THE JUNGLE BOOK, for example, was "only" expected to earn $87 million in its debut weekend, but it ended up grossing a little over $100 million.

Personally, I think there's a very good chance that the Marvel flick will hit or approach the double century mark in its opening weekend, and as a huge box office nerd, I can't wait for the numbers to start rolling in.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is due out on May 6th.

Isn't 'century' a measurement of time, not money?

It is a unit of 100 things, most commonly, but not exclusively, referring to years.

It was a rhetorical question. Anyone with half a brain knows that Century is a measurement of years, nothing else.

I would put this making close to $200 million (if not more) since this will be the biggest and most vital Marvel film up to date. Especially with new characters like Spider Man, and Black Panther getting in on the fight.

of course it will be huge, but more important...

... it won't probably drop 70% in its 2nd week end, and the word of mouth will probably be excellent... not like MARTHA vs MARTHA

"but more important"...
why is that more important?
Why is it always about comparing DC vs Marvel? Can't everyone just enjoy all the movies?

As someone that really enjoyed Bats v Supes, I agree with ucfro. I'd rather enjoy DC and Marvel

I agree with ucfro as well. People need to get over themselves with this comparison bullshit already. It's fine to enjoy both.

If it's fine to enjoy both, then it's also fine to compare both. It's a free frickin' country. These movies came out six weeks apart. They're both about their franchise's main heroes fighting each other. They both feature themes of accountability. The comparisons draw themselves.

If you make yourself more than just a cash grabbing studio trying to copy others, if you devote yourself to an ideal, and if they like what they see, then you become something else entirely. :o)

The world would suck if people couldn't argue on the Internet. I didn't wish a pox on your house or anything. Just a friendly disagreement.
