Composer Michael Giacchino goes from Lost to score Let Me In

07.07.2010

When I was watching the last season of LOST, my friend used to sit behind me and laugh at the music. She claimed it was "overdramatic".

This made me sad because I really enjoyed it. Yeah they played some of the same shit over, but I could always count on it to play in certain scenes.

So of course I was happy to find out that the composer for the series, Michael Giacchino would be scoring LET ME IN. Giacchino has actually composed scores for several movies and television series like UP, RATATOUILLE, ALIAS, STAR TREK, LAND OF THE LOST, THE INCREDIBLES, FRINGE, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III, and SPEED RACER. He's also been nominated for several awards and scored a win with his work on UP.

Music for the original film, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN was composed by Johan Söderqvist. The score was hauntingly beautiful pitted against a chilling and unique tale. Speaking of the original, John Ajvide Lindqvist who wrote the book it was adapted from took the title from the Morrissey song, "Let the Right One Slip In". The song itself is a reference to the vampire folklore that a vampire cannot come in unless invited. Lindqvist is a huge Morrissey fan.

Call of Duty

I am pretty sure he did the original score for Call of Duty on the PC. The first one that is - none of this Modern Warfare jazz. I tell you what - it was pretty good too.

ACtually - it was probably someone else. I like to think its him though. Maybe it was that Erricone fellow?

Lost = Awesome....This News = Also Awesome

Michael Giacchino's music is pretty fantastic. One of the best parts about Lost was the score and how it made the experience a whole lot deeper. "Roar", the theme for Cloverfield was also really good and when it comes to UP, wow, that theme got stuck in my head and never left. This is good news.
Also, Niki, I know she's your friend and all, but don't you hate it when people cut a show in half WHILE it's going on? I've had friend do that to me. "Oh Sawyer's so dramatic..haha!" Ruins the fun,

Oh...and Lost is still awesome, the whole damn show, INCLUDING the ending!

I would say this is a solid choice just based on the Star Trek score alone. Looking forward to seeing what the man can do with the movie.

the music in Lost is very melodramatic, that piano tune that they play all the time was kinda brutal after a few seasons. Check out TSCC, Firefly, True Blood or Dexter for some great tv scores.

'Lost' had easily one of the most memorable, cinematic TV scores, and Giacchino's work for Pixar has been great (not to mention his solid 'Cloverfield' overture).

Despite the urge to dismiss 'Let Me In' as just another ripoff Hollywood remake, everything I've seen and read so far is promising.

I also miss Lost

I have all the lost cd's, and Giacchino's work is nothing short of fantastic. It is second only to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings for thematic complexity in my book. Most of his other scores are great as well. He did "Roar" for Cloverfield (a great music cue that played over the end credits) so I'm not surprised he is working with the director again.

M.G. is the GOAT at TV Scores

I feel the opposite of your friend Ms Stephens, (besides being a HUGE fan of LOST) i felt like the sometimes overdramatic acting or plot points were made believable and 10x better by the music! The score on LOST was atleast 50% of my love for that show, its reminiscent (not in sound but just in power) to the Rocky score (the 1st rocky) IMO. Dude's a beast! And i can already tell by the still shot that Matt Reeves is using some of the jj abrams lens flares, i liked Let the Right One In, so

His score for UP was easily one of his best works to date.

I do have to agree that his music for LOST was occasionally overbearing.

That said, I look forward to seeing what he comes up with for Let Me In.

Let's not forget that Giaccino WON the Oscar earlier this year, and deservedly so - for his wonderfully beautiful score for Up. So yeah, I think this is splendid news, because he's a great composer. His score for The Incredibles is one of my all-time favorite scores of all time!

excellent news!

i have his Incredibles, Star Trek, Speed Racer and even a couple of his Lost scores.
And the music on Fringe sounds good.

Awesome. My favorite composer. This remake looks less and less terrible as time goes on.
