Cool Videos: See how much everyone makes on a movie with this credit roll

06.07.2016

Generally we only hear about how much this superstar actor or that famous director makes on any given film, but what about the director's assistant? Best boy? Costume designer? Vanity Fair has put together a credit reel for a hypothetical Hollywood blockbuster using the budgets of 2 actual $200 million blockbuster movies as a references. The video excludes non-human costs, and reflects an approximation of the take home pay of all humans involved, based on average union rates. Obviously some roles, such as writers, directors and actors, are open to fluctuation, but it's a fascinating look nevertheless!

This is very very very inaccurate and misleading.
Look at the youtube comments.
Very few people behind the scenes in the industry makes hundreds of thousands.

I suppose it depends on how long they are working on said film. Im pretty sure for roto artists they would be bordering on 20,000 a year working for a vfx house, maybe a bit more if they're freelance.

Very interesting... Not bad for 3-4 months of work, but I bet the days are long and shitty usually.

Great video! I've always been interested in the business side of film making and this is a creative way to break down where all that money goes when they make a tent-pole film.
