De Niro does Mao

I’ll always have a deep respect for the life and achievements of Mao Zedong because in my first year at university I aced my Chinese history course with a dynamite essay comparing the rise of Communist China to the movie DEMOLITION MAN. Among others, Sly represented Mao and Wesley Snipes represented Chiang Kai Shek in case you were wondering. Anyway, it appears that Bobby De Niro is set to make a film about the highly revered Chinese statesman after Tribeca Films optioned the Roy Rowan memoir, ‘Chasing the Dragon: A Veteran Journalist’s Firsthand Account of the 1949 Chinese Revolution’.

De Niro is a tremendous actor, but I don’t quite think he has the aesthetic range to pull of Chinese. I’m the guy who can’t get over Tim Olyphant playing the lead in HITMAN. Yes, I am obviously joking.

I can totally buy Olyphant as the lead.
