Evangeline Lilly closes deal to join Ant-Man as the female lead

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Back in February, we heard that Evangeline Lilly was in talks for the lead in Edgar Wright‘s ANT-MAN. Now, that has become official as the LOST and THE HOBBIT star joins Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd in the anticipated comic book movie. But, who will she play?

Jeff Sneider of The Wrap confirmed the casting but not the name of her character. Theories are that she will be playing Janet Van Dyne, aka The Wasp, who was the love interest for Hank Pym. Pym will be played in ANT-MAN by Michael Douglas which raises all sorts of questions: will Wasp actually be a love interest for Paul Rudd‘s Scott Lang, thereby changing comic book continuity? Or, will the film be told in flashback with Patrick Wilson as the young version of Hank Pym, Lilly appearing in those scenes set in the past?

Whatever the method that Wright and Joe Cornish have used in the screenplay for ANT-MAN, I think Lilly is a great choice. She is incredibly hot and is perfectly suited to play a comic book character. Some felt her role as Tauriel in THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG was a bit wooden, but I have had a crush on her since LOST was on the air. Even if she doesn’t end up playing Wasp but another character (Scott Lang did have a romance with Jessica Jones. Hey, isn’t Marvel developing that as a Netflix series??), I am excited for this news.

ANT-MAN opens next summer on July 17, 2015.
