Exclusive: Hugh Jackman responds to the Wolverine/Professor X movie rumors

Just the other day, Patrick Stewart revealed the potential for him to reprise the role of Charles Xavier in the sequel to THE WOLVERINE opposite Hugh Jackman. Stewart teased it as very different than the X-MEN films he had worked on and that it would explore the relationship between the Professor and his emotionally-charged mutant team-member. But, it seemed to be just a possible idea being floated rather than set in stone.

During the recent junket for CHAPPIE, our own Eric Walkuski asked Jackman if there was any truth to the rumor of THE WOLVERINE 2 featuring Logan working side by side with the elder Professor X.

"I'm not going to deny it. I've learned over the years to try and put my best poker face on. By the way, play poker with me if you want to win some money, because I'm terrible. But, I've always seen it as a really important relationship, and we started with that and I think it's a really important one. I think it would be really great to see it in the Wolverine movie, because we haven't really explored it in the standalone Wolverine movies. So it's not not not not not going to happen."

While that last sentence was meant to be something of a joke, Hugh Jackman did not discount that Stewart was telling the truth about the potential team-up between Xavier and Logan. After the great work that James Mangold did giving us a powerful take on THE WOLVERINE, I would love to see what he could do with the father-son dynamic between these two characters. Even though Wolverine is significantly older than Xavier, the two have a lot they can learn and teach each other.

THE WOLVERINE 2 is slated to hit theaters on March 3, 2017.

This is great news! Jackman and Stewart are both tremendous actors, so this new Wolverine movie just jumped up a few awesome points in my book.

James Mangold + Hugh Jackman + Patrick Stewart = my most anticipated comic book film of 2017! Seriously, I don't need to see 30 characters on screen to enjoy a comic book film. All I want to see are great character driven pieces, and that's exactly what Wolverine 3 is turning into.

I'm assuming some of the premise of this film will be Charles Xavier explaining to Logan what happened because of the timeline change due to the events of Days of Future Past. I mean the last line of the film foreshadows something to that effect.

It must have been a great interview

"I've learned over the years to try and put my best poker face on. By the way, play poker with me if you want to win some money, because I'm terrible." LOL

I admit to having a major man-crush on this guy.

The Wolverine 2 is confusing

It should have a sub-title. I get that it's not exactly the third in a line based upon the X-Men Origins debacle of a film, but to say it's Wolverine 2 is a bit of a fallacy.
