Exclusive (Spoilers): Awesome details on the story and concept for Jurassic Park IV!

Jun. 21, 2013by: Paul Shirey

With all the news about JURASSIC PARK 4 finally getting underway we've heard almost nothing about the story or concept of the film. Director Colin Trevorrow has teased a few things so far, including a trip back to Isla Nublar, the island where JURASSIC PARK originated in Steven Spielberg's 1993 film, as well as a "new dinosaur" that will make us "keep the lights on after you see this movie." And that's where the details end, minus the reveal of the new logo (above - which I think will eventually change). Well, today you're going to find out a lot more than you knew before, which will likely get you damned excited for the next installment.

Our trusted and reliable source has indicated the overall concept of the film, which sounds pretty great and meets up with Trevorrow saying his goal for the film is to "want people to feel like it's the last day of 6th grade again."

Hold onto your butts!

Jurassic Park 4 will be in 3D (apparently shot in the format, rather than post-converted). Casting has not yet begun for the film, so rumors of Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, etc. are not accurate (yet, anyway). The story breaks down like this:

JURASSIC PARK 4, set in present day Isla Nublar, is now an actual theme park, as originally intended by John Hammond in the first film. It garners 10 million visitors per year and is completely safe - until it's not. The park itself is described as very Sea World-esque and includes an area called the Isla Nublar Lagoon. That means underwater dino's for the first time. No indication of what kind, but there's concept art showing one of the aquatic dino's, as part of a show, jumping out of the lagoon and eating a strung up great white shark like it was a fish for a dolphin at sea world.

As part of a show, you ask? That's right, folks, this will feature "tamed" dino's. In fact, our source indicated that the usually menacing Velociraptors (which will finally be muzzled, along with the T-Rex - until they're not) will actually be used to help fight the threat, which begins in the form of a new dinosaur, not seen in any of the previous films (and not disclosed to us) shows to be much smarter than originally thought and is the main cause of havoc breaking out at the park.

So, to sum it all up, JURASSIC PARK 4 will take place back on Isla Nublar with a fully operational dinosaur theme park (I'm sure no expense was spared) that's both prosperous and safe, until a new dinosaur figures out a way to wreak havoc, causing the use of the now tamed Velociraptors (and T-Rex? Unclear) as a means to fighting the threat.

No details on human characters (new or returning) but I'm sure they'll play a big part in the grand scheme of things. Overall, this sounds like a kick ass way to go and a solid way to continue the story, while almost rebooting in a way. It sounds like screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have nailed down a great concept for the 4th entry and I'm now officially excited to return to Jurassic Park.

JURASSIC PARK 4 (in 3D) is set to debut Summer 2015.

What do you think? Does this concept work for you? Let us know below!

Jurassic Park 4, a parody unto itself

People have waited for 12-14 years for a piece of dreck such as this? The plots are becoming parodies of themselves. The proposed JP4 story is not only juvenile and embarrassing, but it's also an insult to moviegoers whom Spielberg and Trevorrow expect to shell out $10-15. What will we get (besides being screwed), when we finally get it, dinos singing and dancing in drag? Wait until Sept 2013. There's a new action-packed novel coming which will make you forget JP4 in a nanosecond !

Sounds like a plan. I always was curious about seeing the park actually up and running, like in Westworld where all people experience It like a theme park. I'm wondering though if Ingen is still funding them or what? And how did they manage to get the park running again out of the blue? That aside though, I'm hella happy they're pushing ahead with a sequel.

Tamed?

Are they tamed in the sense like you would tame a lion or tiger, or could they be genetically altered to be less aggressive. (Bringing back the science element) Just imagine the park being open and humans and dinosaurs living in perfect harmony like Hammond imagined. Then "life finds a way", and a certain new dinosaur beats the gene alteration and starts wreaking havoc and the other dinosaurs aren't necessarily used or manipulated to fight the rogue dino but they fight him out of the for need

i had lost interest in the these movies as each new one came out. but after reading what's in store for this new movie, has once again brought back full interest in the JP Franchise! now i'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out in the years to come from this point on.

Eh...

This doesn't sound like the worst sequel idea I've ever heard, but it's got flaws and plot holes painted all over it... The comments below have already pointed out about a half a dozen that I have no doubt will be poorly explained, if at all. I'd be willing to give it a shot, but after seeing what the world of Jurassic Park is without Spielberg, I'll probably end up waiting for the video.

HUH?!

Tamed dinosaurs? What? Using the original island and having it fully operational is a great idea. Having tamed dinosaurs in the park is fucking stupid. And if u have to tame dinosaurs, tame the triceratops like an elephant. taming the raptors i guess could be possible like they do with lions to an extent. Taming a T-rex is like trying to tame a great white. Thats dumb. I hope they dont use the taming idea. Make me feel how I felt when I saw the first JP not how I felt when I saw JP3.

A new park with dinosaurs? Did the people who are making this film ever watch the three previous ones?
Dozens of people died because of the first park, a T-rex was running wild in San Diego, the navy was sent twice on Isla Sorna, there was an international blockade around the islands ... and now they would build another park?

If it's a reboot, it should be titled like a reboot. By giving it that "4", it's being placed in the universe established by the retarded second and third movies. How can I possibly take this seriously? Getting excited for this is like sonic fans getting excited for a new sonic game: it only ever ends in disappointment.

What?

Tame Raptors and possible a tame T-Rex? That's just....it just doesn't make any sense. Unless they have Doctor Grant ride into the park on the back of a T-Rex waving his hat over his head saying "Welcome to Jurassic Park." Or Tim and Lex come riding in on Raptors with Lex saying, "This time, he won't leave us."

I like it...

but it feels like it could go in either direction. I could see a new billionaire investor reclaiming the park with force and rebuilding it. It could work. Jurassic Park is such a great franchise, but it seems no one knows what to do with it. I loved the first, and The Lost World, but I thought 3 was lazy. I would like to see some great storytelling again.

But....Grant decided not to endorse the park...

Didn't everybody involved in the first movie testify in court about the incident at Isla Nublar? And didn't the world realize after having a T-Rex loose in San Diego (or Fransisco or whatever city it was) that having dinosaurs mix with humans equals bad things happening? How was it legally possible in the universe they have established to accomplish this theme park especially if the Costa Rican government sees it as a danger threatening tourism in that part of the world because of the

How was it legally possible in the universe they have established to accomplish this theme park especially if the Costa Rican government sees it as a danger threatening tourism in that part of the world because of the atrocities committed there? If it is a true reboot, why introduce a new dinosaur we haven't seen yet instead of sticking to the true stars of the show which are the Velociraptors and the T-Rex? Is InGen still involved or was it Dodgsen head of research with Biosyn that ended up gaining control of live dino DNA? I have too many questions. Hopefully as more details come I can piece it together and form an opinion. So far I actually like the idea of them having accomplished the theme park....in my mind they would have never got to that...it is a perfect way to reboot if done right. I just don't like this new "smarter" animal. Especially after the injustice that was done to the T-Rex and Velociraptors in part 3 by introducing the fucking "Spinosaurus". Even that name is still stupid.

Actually, I change my mind.
At first this sounded like it could be an interesting spotlight on a society that spends millions of tourist dollars on theme parks and shows centered around large, wild, and often dangerous animals (Sea World, the circus) confined and sometimes forced into "performing". And only AFTER these animals snap and kill is the whole enterprise looked on as saddening and ultimately beyond control. However briefly.

Sounds like a reboot

It is a reboot in the sense that people either don't know what happened before on Isla Nublar or so much time has passed that it has been forgotten. Perhaps the park has been open for many many years without incident. This would explain why the dinosaurs are "tame": as was pointed out by others, the dinosaurs would have to choose to live with humans and they would only do that if the humans treated them well and had done so for some time.

I have some reservations however. Some people

I have some reservations however. Some people mention Jaws 3 but this reminds me more of Rise of the Planet of the Apes: presumably one dinosaur is smart enough to realize that there is a world beyond Isla Nublar and he wants to get off the island. That actually isn't that smart of a plan though: I can't imagine a dinosaur piloting a boat or a plane. The humans provide food for the dinosaurs so killing all the humans seems like a bad idea.

As for dinosaurs fighting dinosaurs, the original Jurassic Park had that: our heroes would be running away from a dinosaur only to have it get eaten by a bigger dinosaur. Presumably the Raptors are smart enough to realize that eating the humans would be a bad idea and if this new dinosaur is killing humans then they should decide by themselves to take the threat down. I think they might have spoiled the end of the movie.

I'll wait to see a trailer and cast list before I judge it, but the "helper dinosaurs" sound kind of daft. Could work if done right, but it could very easily make Chrichton spin in his grave.

I'd still rather see the prequel with Muldoon as the lead character, showing the chaos that happened in the park before they got the raptors under control; basically a 90-minute version of that opening scene. I know Bob Peck is (sadly) no longer with us, but give Michael Fassbender a shotgun and a pair

Having a functional park could be a great idea or an awful one depending on how its approached. The idea of the dinosaurs "helping fight the threat" Probably wont be humans riding them or anything stupid. Probably more so them just unleashing these other "trusted" dinosaurs that they think are tamed to help destory this other havoc maker. Which, by the way, will prove to be an awful idea. That could still be a fun "6th grade-like" movie and leave it open for sequels, but if it's drenched in

This is a fucking disgrace to the classic that is Jurassic Park.

I can totally see 1 of the "good guy" Raptors making a last-ditch effort & sacrificing himself for the main hero he befriended throughout the movie in order to defeat the new main villain dinosaur.

...when (& if) that scene appears, for me, it'll be like the death of Ant-E from "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" all fucking over again!

Utter garbage concept. It's another pointless rehash. The first Jurassic Park was almost the same thing. It's safe until it isn't. There are animals too smart for their own good - raptors opening doors.
And now they're using the dinosaurs like Pokemon, to fight battles. This is shamefully stupid. Every one of you who likes this bullshit concept is a fucking moron. Good god. This is like Micheal Bay's Jurassic Park.
I honestly can't wrap my head around just WHAT the hell you guys are thinking.

I honestly can't wrap my head around just WHAT the hell you guys are thinking. Which part of this concept sounds good? WHICH PART??? This is like if there was a Close Encounters Part 2, in which the aliens come back to Earth and open a circus. Hey, it's aliens! That's all you want! And they're being used for entertainment, because FUCK the story! Right? Nevermind about the awe. Nevermind about the interesting ideas put forth in the movie. Nevermind about the science, and the mystery. No, that's OBVIOUSLY not what made Jurassic Park such an amazing movie. It was obviously just OMG DINOSAURS! Let's make them FIGHT! And let's make the sequel into a pointless rehash of the first one! Let's recycle 95% of the ideas, and turn it into a joke.
The kind of crap that passes off as good ideas around here makes me sick to my stomach. Fucking insipid garbage.

I'll get behind any Jurassic Park movie. I've enjoyed the three previous and it's been a while since we've had some decent dinosaur infused entertainment.

And for god's sake, build some dinosaurs the time around. If this is a CGI fest I'm gonna scream.

I really want a Jurassic Park 4 movie, but only if it's good, and sadly this doesn't seem to be it. Sure, it has a few interesting ideas, but at the same time re-opening the park seems to undermine the point of the original movie (and in a way the sequels). I'm sure Alien vs. Predator seemed like a good idea, but than it came out and just tarnished the Alien franchise (and predator also, I guess). I have a feeling that is what this movie will do. Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite

Jurassic Park is one of my all time favorite movies and the reason I'm a film fan, and it genuinely saddens me that this was the best they could come up with. Even the dino's escaping the island idea seems more appealing, and I wasn't a fan of that either.

Science

I will apologize in advance for bringing science and logic into a movie discussion but I do like a little bit of realism in my fiction. While it may not sit with the established JP universe, research is showing that dinos were not the mindless killing machines that people think. Most of the therapods (velociraptors and kin) were on par intellectually with wolves. Wolves can be tamed and eventually domesticated but there is a difference. Domestication takes 100 generations and like our pets they

Domestication takes 100 generations and like our pets they become used to and dependent on humans. Tame means that for the most part they exist with humans without problem until they decided not to and then somebody's "pet" lion eats them. I'm cool with tame dinosaurs but not so much a man's new, er old, best friend dino.

Now those '98 action figures can makes some sense. Raptor with missile launcher, T-rex with Tank Wheels, Suicide Compy Bombers. Things are looking GREAT! (insert sarcasm)
Still looking forward to it.

But honestly where else can they go? The series really should have ended when a T-Rex showed up in a city. How much further into that direction before it gets dull and like repeating the same thing. At least this is a direction I don't think anyone on this website even speculated would happen.

Hmm...

I'm onboard with all of this, except therdinos fighting alongside humans. I'm not one to knock a movie or and idea, until after I've seen the outcome though, so, I'll keep an open mind until then. JP is one of my favorite franchises, so hopefully it doesn't end up being as bad as it sounds.

This idea does sound pretty cool, however, I love the original concept for Jurassic Park back in 2007. Such a perfect setup!

I'm just going to have to wait until more about this movie releases to make an official opinion.

I have very mixed feelings.

I love the original film, as well as the two books (particularly the first one). The second movie kinda sucked, the third recaptured the tone of the first one but had a terrible ending, and the fourth could well be a successful 'reboot' of sorts. There's definitely potential. But at the same time, after the events in the first two movies in particular, how realistic is it that they would EVER manage to have the theme park approved? With that many deaths and the T-Rex roaming San Francisco, it's

But at the same time, after the events in the first two movies in particular, how realistic is it that they would EVER manage to have the theme park approved? With that many deaths and the T-Rex roaming San Francisco, it's just insulting to believe ten or so years later they would have a fully operational theme park. I think the idea of using the muzzled/tamed dinos to fight the 'new threat' also sounds weak. The whole idea of bringing in "new, bigger" dinos for every sequel (like the Spinosaurus in JP3) is understandable, but let's face it, it kinda backfired; people love their classic dinos, and you can't beat the T-Rex. The underwater dinos could be cool, but one of the big attractions about JP3 in its promo campaign was the 'new' flying dinosaurs that were only hinted at during the finale of JP1. Then when the third one came out, it didn't seem like that many people were won over by the pterodactyl sequence. So 'more' isn't always necessarily better. So, I dunno. I was kinda hoping they'd bring Neill and co. back but it sounds like based on this premise, their presence would only be a forced cameo.

Domesticating dinos isn't TOO off the wall considering we've already accepted how & why they they were brought back to life. But I think, as Cathelotte said, the raptors would HAVE to eventually revolt. I don't want to see them acting like faithful Ol' Yeller the whole time....

In lost world (book) there were these ambush dinos that camouflaged to their environment. They actually seemed more scary than raptors. Amazing how different the movie was from the book. As for the aqua dinos, I hope they have either a megalodon or whatever the ocean dwelling supercroc was.

As much as I want to see a new JP...

The muzzled dinos thing will work ONLY if it's a new proof you CAN'T actually do it: they THINK they control them, just like they thought they would control the park in JP1 & 3... BUT nature finds it's way, and... Bon appétit dinos !

I am excited for a JP sequel, but the idea of humans running along side tamed dinosaurs seems sort of odd and now JP. I remember hearing rumours years ago that JP4 would be a war with dinosaurs, and it looks like they kept a bit of that.

Goldblum or Bust!

This doesn't sound too bad. The tameness of the dinosaurs is a little questionable, but other than that I'm ok.

There are two main things I want. First, Goldblum! Technically, Sam Neil and Laura Dern shouldn't be to busy either, but definitely Goldblum. I'm not a huge Bryce Dallas Howard fan so I'm not thrilled about her name being dropped, but she isn't terrible by any means.

Secondly, it needs to be dark. It doesn't have to be rated R, but they can't be afraid to go dark in this film.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

YES!!!! 1000000+.....VERY EXCITED NOW!! They have figured out how the make the story very very interesting and most importantly FUN!! Yes FUN!! JP was always supposed to be a theme park...not a run down theme park that no one goes to anymore...but one that went south for various reasons....That is THE FORMULA!!! Thats it! and it has some great twists....before I was adamant about it being a reboot but now they can make it a continuation and a reboot of sorts and everyone will be happy...well

Thats it! and it has some great twists....before I was adamant about it being a reboot but now they can make it a continuation and a reboot of sorts and everyone will be happy...well not everyone of course...there are always the ones that will never be happy until they make the movie themselves. but I still think it should just start fresh. I love JP the original...the others I could have always done without...JP always felt like I was going to Disney World or something....like I went to the theme park with them...now if they film it in 3D..that'll be great..I guess...better than converting..that sucks...but in 3D it will really feel like I'm at the theme park or participating in some way. Personally I'm a HUGE FAN of HFR or 48FPS 3D...The Hobbit Blew me away...I was floored by how immersive experience was...It was like an amazing 2 and a half hour 3D Theme park ride..but the BEST theme park ride I have ever ridden...and I've never been a fan of 3D, actually I hated it..until I saw 48fps...that is what 3D is supposed to be. Yes, it does have that 'Soap Opera' effect or feel..like the 120 or 240 hertz on an LED HDTV...but once you get over that its truly AMAZING...we just have to get over it. It feels like you are actually there in Middle Earth with the Hobbits and everyone else. There are still scenes that I think about today...and I can't wait til I can see HFR 3D again... and I would be floored if they decide to do HFR 3D on JP!! If you have not seen 48fps yet and have the chance to...TAKE IT!! its tough for the first 30 to 40 mins...but you will get used to it...the acting and everything else will make you forget about the 'soap opera' effect...its a trade off...soap opera effect for the most amazing IMMERSIVE 3D you have EVER SEEN!! and FELT!! Anyway that is the only movie you can see it on now...and I doubt its in any theaters right now too... but that being said, they will keep making adjustments to HFR and hopefully they will improve things so that the Soap Opera effect is lessened some...as for me, Im fine with it. So many of us are used to watching movies in 24fps...geez, double that and people go bananas...they don't know why the movie looks so weird and they come to the conclusion that the movie is CHEAP...LOL
Anyhoo......Vote 1 for Jurassic Park HFR 3D!! PLEASE

The whole point of the first movie is to prove that Jurassic Park could not work. And now they are trying to bring in tamed dinosaurs. *rolls eyes* Absolutely awful.

This is an ideal storyline. This way, when shit hits the fan, they can get one of the old characters that was there the first time to join a new team and teach them how to survive this mayhem. This way they can establish new characters, while pleasing the fans of the original. Personally, I want Goldblum, I wasn't crazy about Sam Neill's character.

I like the idea of aquatic Dino's (need to check out that underwater walking with dinosaurs) but I hope they don't have any megaldons. There's a great book by Steve Alten called Meg about megaldons surviving down in the Mariana's trench and one surfaces and wreaks havoc. It's suppose to be made into a movie, but it's been stuck in development hell for years. Think Jp crossed with jaws. That's how the megaldon should make its big screen debut.

Has me excited finally

You hear comments about languishing sequels to beloved originals constantly (Ghostbusters most in my mind). This news has me genuinely excited to see a new Jurassic Park film. The original is definitely imprinted in my mind as I was only eight when I first saw it. The dilophosaurus scene with Nedry made me run out of the theater, peaking back through the doors until it was over. Hopefully this story provides a great movie in the future.

Just please please get Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern back for this. You imagine how EPIC it would be seeing ALL three of them on the big screen again since the original Jurassic Park.

I love Jurassic Park. It started my love with movies and sent me to film school. I've been nervous for some time on what they're doing with the new film, but if this is true, I'm in. I think it's a cool way to get new people interested in the franchise. That being said, not sure how I feel about the raptors "helping" with the threat, but it's got my $13.
