Gore Verbinski wants to expose the Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Remember when PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN virtuoso Gore Verbinski was going to make a BIOSHOCK movie, and some of us got kind of excited?

Well, how about if he does a remake of a 53-year-old Danny Kaye comedy instead?

Verbinski is attached to an update of THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, based on a James Thurber story. The whimsical tale revolves around a daydreaming writer who imagines he’s an adventurous hero, which comes true when he finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy and a quest for priceless jewels.

The project has been in the works for ages, with people like Steven Spielberg, Owen Wilson, Ron Howard, Jim Carrey and Mike Myers each once involved (along with half the writers in Hollywood). THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS scribe Steven Conrad did the latest draft.

The new version of MITTY will come from Fox, who never met a movie they didn’t like (to make again).
