Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 adds Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum

03.17.2017

It's almost time to get hooked on a feeling all over again with the release of Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 and it looks as if James Gunn isn't done announcing additions to the highly-anticipated sci-fi action flick just yet! Today, it's being reported that SMALLVILLE's own Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum, will be joining to cast.Just like Sylvester Stallone's character in the upcoming comic book adventure, Rosenbaum's part in the film remains undisclosed at this time - though Gunn has confirmed that the actor (who was once considered for the portrayal of Star-Lord) will play a "key role" in the film.

In talking about the casting while being a guest on the Adam Corolla Show, Gunn had said that, "a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe" will officially debut in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. He also stated that both Stallone and Rosenbaum will have "pretty decent" roles in the film.

Hmm ... significant characters to the Marvel Universe, you say? Could it be that we'll get a sneak peak at Brie Larson's CAPTAIN MARVEL at some point during the Guardians' space-faring shenanigans? Or, what if we get to catch a glimpse of Uatu the Watcher? Surely he's been observing all of the chaos happening in and around the Marvel Universe, right? I can see it all now, Uata munching away on a big bucket of popcorn Cape-Fear-style, laughing and shaking his head at the confused humans and super-powered beings who haven't a clue as to what they're doing. What a shame that he can only observe and never intervene. Then again, if he did, we probably wouldn't have anymore Marvel movies to look forward to.

GURADIANS OF THE GALAXY lands in theaters on May 5, 2017.

We're not getting Uatu, on account of him debuting in Fantastic Four, and thus being owned by Fox.

I'll maintain that there has been at least some activity in that regard over the last couple of years.

Proofreading

"Guradians"? "Uata"? For a page so packed with ads that it can be hard to read the article, not much work goes into proofreading the articles before they're posted.

This guy was the best part of Smallville and his personality and comedic timing fits perfectly for the tone that Gunn and co. have created with the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films. And echoing below, would love to see him as either Richard Rider or especially Adam Warlock. I would even be happy if he ended to playing a rival thief to Pratt's Star Lord.

Rosenbaum would fit Adam Warlock while Stallone fits the build for Nova.

If we get Adam Warlock in the film I'll be jazzed beyond belief. Since Ayesha is the villain it gives me hope, but you never know with these Marvel movies, sometimes they like to play pretty fast and loose with the canon.

Adam?

Adam Warlock has to show up in this if they don't want to bother with introducing him in Infinity War.

We already know that The Guardians of the Galaxy introduces at least three Elders of the Universe: Collector, Grandmaster, and Ego. Possibly, Stallone could play Champion as an in-joke. After all, he has played a boxer many times. Otherwise, Obliterator would fit an action hero well. Rosenbaum could play most anyone. But, he might play the smart, bald guy Contemplator.

Of course, the two listed actors need not be playing Elders of the Universe at all. Somehow, I could see Sylvester Stallone

Please Nova

Put a Nova Corp bucket on his head and he would be a kickass Richard Rider.

I was just going to ask if anyone knew if the Nova Corp was going to appear at all in this and maybe he'd be the man called Nova. I'd love to see that!

I watched all ten season of Smallville, all the while realizing that it objectively wasn't that great of a show, but whatever the show's faults, I will absolutely agree with you that Rosenbaum is the best screen Lex ever.

Totally agree. Just imagine what he could have done with Lex in a full length feature film.
