Guardians of the Galaxy's Karen Gillan joins James Ponsoldt's The Circle
Deadline has learned that Doctor Who and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY actress Karen Gillan is set to co-star alongside Tom Hanks, Emma Watson and John Boyega in THE CIRCLE, director James Ponsoldt's (THE END OF THE TOUR) movie adaptation of the Dave Eggers novel of the same name. Gillan has been cast as Annie, "a warm, cute, goofy, old-money confident and fiercely intelligent member of The Circle, an Internet monopoly that links users’ personal emails, social media, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system."
Ponsoldt will be directing from his own script, and although a release date hasn't been announced yet, filming is expected to begin sometime this month, which means THE CIRCLE will probably hit theaters sometime in late 2016 or early 2017.
The lovely Miss Gillan's upcoming big screen projects include turns in Ti West's IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE, Adam McKay's THE BIG SHORT and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, and she also has a role in HBO’s period drama pilot The Devil You Know.
