Strike Back below!
by: Mike Sampson Dec. 8, 2009

When HAPPY FEET surprised audiences in 1996 and wound up bringing in just shy of $200 million and won an Oscar for Best Animated Film, you knew a sequel was happening. I'm just surprised it took this long to really get it mobilized. But Elijah Wood and Robin Williams have officially signed on to reprise their voice roles from the first film in the upcoming sequel.

George Miller, who is also busy prepping FURY ROAD, will again direct the animated film and the actors are headed to Australia in January to begin recording their voices. It's unclear whether Hugh Jackman and/or Nicole Kidman will return in any capacity (and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Brittany Murphy won't be back...). Because it seems to be the cool thing to do these days, the plot is being kept under wraps. But expect it to involve a fair amount of penguin singing and dancing.

I don't want to sound like a bad guy but...
Everyone loves penguins they are awesome i loved the march of them, they are cute funny, and one of the few cute creatures that can be appreciated by super hetero people like moi. Them and Pandas. But anyway i have never wanted to cut a creatures feet of more than when i saw this. even the surfing penguin film was ok. But the little fat rapping penguin was a hoot so i'm open for a spin off.

Animated films make a lot of cash, end of story. I still can't figure out how ice age 3 made so much money, i thought the first was mediocre, never bothered with the sequels. Same with Madagascar. At least I have Toy Story 3 to look forward to.

Extra tidbit...
Not sure what to think about that tbh- we're getting sequels to both, at any rate. BLEH.

Liked the first, I don't mind a second one. Anything with Robin Williams (that is good) is okay in my book.

Happy Feet was just okay. The biggest problem I have is the main character was a wierd mutant that hadn't shed his baby fur above his shoulders for the entire movie. He had that little kid head the entire time. I couldn't get over it. And it was released the same day as Casino Royale and got the number one spot that weekend by less than $1M.

Hated it
i love animated movies. Even when they aren't very good I still manage to like them. But Happy feet drove me crazy. It was like a poorly put together Moulin Rouge. I know I'm in the minority here but it was just so irksome.

Penguins as allegory of humanity? Could not agree more. Creepy-cruel-ignorant characters. Actors 'attempting' to sing (sure Hugh, you think you can sing, whatever - stop yelling). And, of course, Mr. 'Mad Max Babe Pig In The City' George Miller's patented unpleasant edge of despare... Pass.
