Hopkins fathers Wolfman

I think I might be the only person on the planet who thinks MEET JOE BLACK is a fantastic movie. Part of that is down to what I consider to be very, very intelligent writing, and part of it is down to Anthony Hopkins' portrayal as the wise old father figure. Sure Hannibal Lector is probably Hopkins' greatest ever role, but in my opinion no-one plays the wise old dad like he does.

To that end, he has revealed that he is very close to playing father to Benicio Del Toro (who is slightly more hairy and a lot less attractive than Clare Forlani) in the upcoming movie THE WOLFMAN.

He says that Del Toro "just wants to make sure that the deal is all in but I play the Wolfman's father in Paris. A wonderful part." The film will be a remake of the 1941 film THE WOLF MAN, which tells of a guy called Larry Talbot that is bitten by a werewolf during a scuffle, turning him into a werewolf himself.
Extra Tidbit: Hopkins was considered for the role of Mr. Freeze in BATMAN & ROBIN. What??

Oh man, Meet Joe Black... maybe the writing was intelligent, but it was so slow that you could actually cut half the running time without spoiling any scene... or maybe you just need to play it at double speed.

That said, Anthony Hopkins can do whatever he wants.

Great Choice

That would be great, and you're not alone. Meet Joe Black is one of my favorite movies

kickass

Hopkins as Victor Fries, in a different capacity of course, is great casting. I'd like to see what Nolan could do with the character.

As for the current subject, I'm loving everything about this film so far. Especially that of Mark Romanek. One Hour Photo is, simply put, a modern masterpiece. Combine my love for Romanek's obvious competency with the horror genre and my mild obsession with all things werewolf, and you have one of my most anticipated films of 2008. Godamn, this is gonna be

This might be pretty cool if Hopkins is in. Del Toro is awesome, and the writer is good. The wolfman is a great character too. I'm there. EXTRA EXTRA TIDBIT: Hopkins was Chris Nolan's first choice for Alfred in BATMAN BEGINS. That would have been cool.

This must be a pretty straight remake cuz who would have thought in the 40s that Claude Rains could be Lon Chaney Jr.'s dad?

Hello--Anyone there?

I love Meet Joe Black too. I can't explain it, but there's something about the movie that is deeply calming.

Sweet!

Hopkins kicked ass in Dracula, now he can kick ass in The Wolfman!

Is it possible that this movie can break the curse of shitty werewolf movies we’ve been getting? I sure as hell hope so.

I'd normally be against casting Hopkins as father to Benicio Del Toro, but then I'm all hyped up about the Wolfman remake, too, and since Del Toro is a veritable chameleon anyway, I think it might actually work. One point of contention, Beinicio Del Toro is tall, and Anthony Hopkins is, er, not tall.
