Is Marvel working on an Agent Peggy Carter series for ABC?

Sep. 19, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Is there a serious lack of Agent Peggy Carter in your life? Prepare to have that void filled as the character may be getting her own series on network television.

Marvel is apparently developing an Agent Peggy Carter series for ABC. The project is currently in early development, but will Hayley Atwell reprise her role? According to Deadline there is no certainty on that subject. However, sources close to The Playlist say that she will take on the series with shooting beginning next year.

Atwell is busy getting roles here in the States as well as across the pond so her schedule may be a little tight. While Marvel has been known to do the switch-a-too with actors for certain roles, I think that Atwell perfectly embodies Carter. Then again, I thought Edward Norton made a great Hulk then Mark Ruffalo came along and did a great job as well.

If they dared to replace Atwell, who do you think would be an ideal candidate?

This is probably too much...but I'll watch it. Sure, her story will most probably be on the periphery of the Marvel universe but for it to mean something it has to have a good connection with it. Given the way the American networks cancel shows...I fear Marvel will spread themselves too far with this and should it get cancelled what damage would that do to the whole thing they've got going. Sooner or later, one of their projects is going to fail but give us too much and it'll happen much

I think those who are skeptical about this should watch the Agent Carter one-shot that'll be included with Iron Man 3. I've already seen it and immediately after it was over I wanted more because it was just handled in a very fun, but also cool way. If this potential show spins off of that short, then I think we're in for some good television.

I see this ending up like CSI...........

They are going to over saturate us with Marvel sh*t. I remember when people loved CSI, then there was CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, CSI: L.A., CSI: Mars. Its all about moderation, and keeping you just on the edge of wanting more..

Is there a serious lack of Haley Atwell in my life? Absolutely. Is there a serious lack of a television series about Peggy Carter? Meh.

A lot more could be said about her granddaughter, Sharon Carter, though...

Not sure about this

she was good as the character but I have my doubts about this as it will either double up on the whole SHIELD show or be a kinda campy (as the movie was) take on a very serious subject matter. If they try to make it serious then it will feel out of place with the movie she was in. I find this a very obscure character to build a show around, but you never know.

I really don't think this idea would be successful as a TV show. Agents of SHIELD has a fair shot because that's based around something that's been present in every Marvel movie to date. Plus it has Phil Caulson who's a character that's been in almost every Marvel movie to date. Peggy Carter is a one-off character from one movie, her movie shorts on the dvds were cool enough but I don't think there's enough substance there to make a full TV show out of it. She's just not that interesting of

She's just not that interesting of a character in the grand scheme of things. Let's face it, Marvel is probably looking to turn this into a TV show because they can fill some sort of quota for having strong female leads in their universe without having to put up a hefty budget of making a full length feature for say Ms. Marvel.

So remember when Joss Whedon's Dollhouse did the odd episode that was set in the future at the end of each season?

SHIELD should dedicate an episode every now and then to the origin of SHIELD and Howard Stark/Carter/Howling Commandos in the fifties, following on from that Agent Carter short. Job done.

Not to sound like a downer or anything, but there's an old phrase that goes "too much of a good thing can end up sucking". I'm glad Marvel has been able to expand their universe to this extent, it really is a dream come true, but let's not get carried away by trying to cash-in on things that don't really warrant it. I love Agent Carter, but setting up a series and then failing isn't going to do the Universe any justice. Let's just keep than in mind, Marvel.

I honestly think the Agent Carter one-shot was good enough. Atwell is lovely and plays an awesome Peggy Cater, but something like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. definitely has more legs. I guess that the series being set in the past, with a "future" already established, means something of a lack of stakes, as well as a possible disjointedness from the current Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity, which Agents of S.H.I.E.LD. seems to be keeping current with.

Why?

This is just a bad idea... Guaranteed the show is cancelled after half a season.

So many spin-offs being announced based on movie properties combined with the ones already existing. With the competition in TV land being as steep as it is these days I don't think the majority of audiences know who Agent Carter is or will care about her antics. Tie that in with the fact that the show will be a set-time piece which means it cannot be fully tied in with the SHIELD series because of it, it simply wont succeed...

If there's a Sgt. Fury on the show

David Hasselhoff should let his agent handle it.

If this is true, I do hope Hayley Atwell reprises her role. Agent Carter short on Iron Man 3 Blu Ray is quite awesome and showcases a great potential for the character.

Would love to see a Peggy Carter series that takes place during the same time or after the events of Captain America. It would definitely be different and probably a very fun show to watch week after week. I mean who doesn't enjoy looking at Hayley Atwell?

we already had this show it was called Alias and it will no matter what be better than this show, which can still be good, but this will be the knock-off generic version of Alias.

I agree. Alias was a great show and was one of my favorite shows to ever watch for the very first time. But if this is half as good than I'll take it.
