UPDATE: An official look at The Dark Knight Trilogy Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-ray box set with details!

07.02.2013

UPDATE: Warner Bros. released a photo (see above) as well as official details on the set. It's quite similar to what I originally showed you. I don't know what you are going to think about the special features, however. Well I am pretty sure I know what the reaction will be but I won't be quick to judge. The packaging is nice and should be great for any Bats super fan. Check it all out below:

Christopher Nolan’s reimagining of the Batman franchise beginning with 2005’s Batman Begins enjoyed phenomenal critical and box-office success.

Now on September 24, Nolan’s three Batman films – Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises – will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment as The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition. The six-disc set will feature all three films with their existing extra content, two new featurettes and exclusive new collectible memorabilia. This must-own collection for fans of DC Comics’ Caped Crusader is available in premium packaging and will sell for $99.97 SRP.

About the Ultimate Collector’s Edition (UCE):

Disc 1 – Batman Begins Feature and Special Features

Disc 2 – The Dark Knight Feature

Disc 3 – The Dark Knight Special Features

Disc 4 – The Dark Knight Rises Feature

Disc 5 – The Dark Knight Rises Special Features

Disc 6 – Bonus Disc of New Special Features

NEW Special Features:

The Fire Rises: The Creation and Impact of The Dark Knight Trilogy - The inside perspective on the fascinating story behind the creation of one of the most celebrated franchises and how it changed the scope of movie making….forever. Full of never-before-seen footage, rare moments, and exclusive interviews with Guillermo Del Toro, Damon Lindelof, Michael Mann, Richard Roeper, Zack Snyder and others.

Christopher Nolan & Richard Donner: A Conversation - For the first time, Directors Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy) and Richard Donner (Superman) sit down to discuss the trials and triumphs involved in bringing the two most iconic superheroes of all time to the big screen, and how Superman influenced Nolan when developing Batman Begins.

IMAX® Sequences: The Dark Knight; The Dark Knight Rises - See your favorite scenes as they were intended in the original IMAX© aspect ratio

Exclusive NEW Memorabilia:

Premium Mattel Hot Wheels Vehicles: Batmobile, Batpod and Tumbler

Newly commissioned collectible art cards by Mondo featuring Scarecrow, Joker, Bane, Harvey Dent, and Ra’s al Ghul

48-page hardcover book featuring production stills and behind the scenes images from all three movies

It's been long rumored that a nice little Blu-ray collector's edition box set would make its way to Batman fans. Thanks to a Polish Bats site we have what seems to be our first look as well as details on the set.

I'm really hoping that there are some great features on the DVD like behind the scenes, interviews, make-up tests, and so on. This trilogy has been special to the Batman fans, and if they are going to dish out the big bucks they want something in return. It looks like you will be getting three of the vehicles featured in each film. There's also great artwork from the looks of it.

Check out the details from Batcave.com:

Although an official announcement has not yet, but there is some information on foreign websites. There are many indications that the entire set will consist of nine plates (set of "The Dark Knight Trilogy" had five discs). Among the additional items in the kit can also find book, three prints, poster and three toy models of vehicles Batman (Tumbler, Batpod and The Bat).

According to the French Amazon costing 89.99 euros (roughly $117.00 when converted to US dollars) set will go on sale on October 2, and the contents of the disc will be as follows:

Batman Begins (2 Blu-ray + 1 DVD)

The Dark Knight (2 Blu-ray + 1 DVD)

The Dark Knight Rises (2 Blu-ray + 1 DVD)

No thanks.

Already bought the trilogy on blu-ray. Nowhere near enough to get me to fork out a hundred bucks for this.

After watching it a few times the sad reality is that Dark Knight Rises is not very good. It just isn't. In my opinion it actually weakens the other films in the trilogy too. The motivations for most of the characters make almost no sense. Batman, as he was in the entire trilogy, is weak and not at all compelling. I think the general opinion of these films as a collective masterpiece

This I agree with. DKR is the weakest of the three and doesnt hold up agianst the other two, its still a enjoyable film but its not something I can watch agian and agian like I did with Batman Begins and Dark Knight. Saying that I still might pick this blue-ray package up because someone stole my BB copy and I never bought the dark knight rises yet, never felt the need too. We'll see.

Just Wait

As much as this looks enticing, I along with countless others want some behind the scenes documentary footage of Ledger's Joker along with commentary from Chris. I understand his respect towards Heath and his family but you can't really completely ignore the main staple of one of the best films ever made (my opinion). A couple of half-assed toys and some Mondo cards are cool, but I want the meat and potatoes of this trilogy. There's bound to be an anniversary edition later down the line.

Having the entire trilogy in Steelbooks is probably good enough for me right now. I was honestly hoping for a lot more added bonus features... especially a Heath Ledger tribute or something.

Disapointing....

I was really hoping for some Christopher Nolan commentary tracks. While the Nolan/Donner feature sounds cool, it's nothing that won't end up on YouTube within a month of release. The toys, still not my cup of tea so that's a pass. The villain artwork is awesome, but really, how many times are your really going to go out of your to look at them unless you display them outside the packaging. Overall, it's OK-likely I will still buy it because I am always a sucker for this double dipping

Yeah, I agree about the toys--

--unless you include something spacial with a set like this, it just comes across as a "Happy Meal" extra, and theres nothing "special edition" about THAT. Plus, shouldn't it be the car, then the bike and then the copter-? Why's the bike first?? Did the packaging people bother to watch the films?

Looks like repackaging of the original releases. Hopefully WB will treat this like the Superman Motion Picture box set and not just a fancy empty box.

Personally, I could care less about the toys. That's kid of stuff just isn't my cup of tea. However, overall from a physical appearance, it looks solid. I definitely be interested in looking at that book and seeing what additional features come on the disc. I have my fingers crossed for some Nolan commentary tracks! Regardless, this will be definite buy for me.

Unless theres a shit ton of deleted scenes and some behind the scenes footage with Ledger, not much else hear to make me get this when I have the 3 on blu ray already.

I hear that. I mean, I already own all of them on blu-ray, so yeah, there would definitely have to be some new material on TDK or TDKR. It doe's say there is 2 blu-rays for it however, so maybe that means there is new material? That would be awesome.

About a Blu Ray and a half of special features for each movie? That is epic! Hopefully we get a commentary of some kind. Nolan doesn't like to do commentaries however maybe his brother or Goyer or some of the actors will do a commentary for each film. Hopefully deleted scenes as well. We know there are a good bit of deleted scenes from TDKR with Bane so hopefully we can see that. Maybe they can even restore Bane's original voice.

My Dark Knight fanboy wishlist for special features...

After all the info we've heard about the creator's getting the designs for "Begins" done in "Chris' Garage"...it'd be awesome to see any footage of that.

Like The Soloist mentioned...ANYTHING involving Heath Ledger's prep as the Joker.

Hans Zimmer / James Newton Howard score only track

And last but not least (& this is the long shot) a Lord Of The Rings Ex. Edition - style commentary set by both Nolan Bros. & David Goyer one 1, Wally Pfister & Nathan Crowley on the 2nd & any or all of

(Since they had no scenes together in "Begins"...just putting Liam Neeson & Michael Caine in the same room to BS about their Dark Knight experiences would be worth the price of the 9-disc set alone!)

Hell, there's so much more I could list...but I'm sure even Joblo.com's strikeback's have their limits. :)

I'm kind of let down actually - yeah, there's 9 discs but three of them are just DVD copies of the movie (that we are already buying on Blu-ray). So in reality we will only get 6 discs, just one extra disc than in the regular trilogy pack. I doubt we will get any new featurettes, BTS videos or interviews with cast and crew

I'm sort of letdown on that front as well however Blu Ray Discs are massive. And a Blu Ray and a half of special features could last 50 plus hours per disc if they even have that much special features.

When I bought the trilogy on Blu-Ray, they had an insert promoting a special Blu-Ray package coming for the trilogy. I then proceeded to lose my excitement in the trilogy I just purchased.

Love it, but the toys...

Artwork looks pretty unique. Not liking the toys though. I actually collect Hot Toys stuff so I have nothing against toys..but these mini toys that come in DVD sets just put me off. They kinda cheapen the set, like some sort of Happy Meal freebie or something.

How anyone can possibly find any of these boring is beyond me. This is like watching a classical crime trilogy. These movies are basically what would happen if Batman existed in the world of Heat, or The Wire.
