How valuable is Jet Li to a movie production? Try $40 million. Apparently, the director of his upcoming flick, WARLORDS, told the press that “Without Jet Li, we would not dare to invest $40 million in a Chinese-language film.” Li himself will take home $13 million (or $100 million yuan), a record for an actor in a Chinese language film. Who held the record before that? Jet Li, for the $70 million he made off of HERO. Jesus, talk about making bank. Still, this story makes me (somewhat) happy, since I’ve had to accept that I live in a world where Jessica Simpson is probably making more money than most of us will ever see in our lifetimes to giggle, show her tits and portray emotion with the kind of accuracy that the Bush administration shows threat assessment, at least this guy is incredibly talented. He can take your gun apart with one deft move! WARLORDS (Tau Ming Chong) tells the story of three blood brothers and their struggle in the midst of war and political upheaval. The film also stars Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro (both from HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS).
